The Perfect Size for us ...Jul 09, 2010
By Roberta Karchner I've been using various slow cookers for 40 years, and I really do like all of the little features on this one. The handles make it easy to hold, and it heats evenly.
I chose it for several reasons. 1) It is oval. Oval pots allow longer pieces of meat for cooking. 2) Four Quarts is a good size for preparing larger dishes for groups. (I go to a lot of potlucks). 3) At the same time, I can still make smaller dishes in it without worrying 4) It is simple. It has 3 settings, keep warm, low, and high. No fancy electronics to worry about.
When my last "Crockpot" broke, I debated between several sizes. I even looked at the fancy ones that had three sizes of pots included. After comparing prices, I settled on this 4-quart cooker. I figured I could buy it PLUS a small one and still have money left over. Add that to the fact that if I bought two different sizes with the base, I could have two different things cooking at the same time, and this was a real bargain.
If you haven't used a slow cooker before, depending on what you include, you may need to stir occasionally to keep it from burning/sticking. And, meats cook faster than vegies - so save your rare roasts for the oven - slow cookers are for well-done meat that is so tender it falls off the bone. Do check a recipe book or an online recipe before you start, and you'll be a lot happier.

I like the crock pot. I was looking for one that had a removable pot. The metal container and the lid are lightweight--they do the job, but are not as sturdy as I imagined. I reasoned that for what I paid for this, it was worth the money. I've only used it once, but it did a great job. I was able to put the pot in the fridge which makes it worth the money. It doesn't take up a lot of room on the counter either. If you are looking for something small and inexpensive, this would be a good choice.

I can cook.Apr 02, 2010

I never could cook. I would burn boiling water. But I felt if I could cook something slow like a pot roast or a good old chicken soup this would be my way of doing it without the burn. My first weekend I made a pot roast, and it was great, even my girlfriend loved it. So this was the best thing I could have purchased. Good quality, easy to use,and clean. 5 stars.

It cooks faster than other slow cookers I had before.Nov 09, 2010

As another customer reviewed, thermostats problem, it does cook, but cooks faster than normally a slow cooker supposed to do. After I finished cooking, I set it at "warm", the result showed that it was still too hot at "warm". (Food in the slow cooker was still slowly cooked at "warm". ) So we need to buy a good timer for it. (which made the purchase not a good deal.)
BTW, I agree with other people said that, the size is very useful for a small family, also looks nice.

Keep in mind this was my first crockpotJan 12, 2011
By A. Morton I am torn about this. On one hand, I have partied almost every day with this since I got it for Christmas, where I put it on my amazon list for a present with the good reviews. It does not take that much to make a great meal, and after the initial prep is done, it is (mostly) just something to be ignored while you watch TV and take naps during the day ;) Or work, I don't know about that, but one can surmise it is so.. I'd really like to give this a 3.5 It seems like it cooks too fast, when it says to cook a meal 10 hours on low or 6 on high, it has been done by 6 on high/4.5 hours on low, and as an ex culinary student/cook I wouldn't want to keep boiling my protein for another couple of hours past it being done. My unit also simmers/boils much higher on one side of the pot than the other, with visible boiling occuring on one side with no action on the other, and with the recommendation to not take off the lid to stir/check seasoning partway through without risking the heat dropping off it made it a bit of a worry to do so. The downside was today when I smelled burning with my pot roast which had been on high on 5 hours, it had steamed out around the sides and left splattered moisture all over the counter (which was fine), and I turned it off and put it in the fridge to cool and saw that liquid had bubbled over the sides and burned onto the metal frame and the bottom of the unit. I put a bit of water in the bottom after it cooled so it would be easy to clean and when I went back a few hours later it was dry, I thought I just hadn't put enough water in it, and lo and behold, the extra I added immediately seeped out the bottom screw-hole that is set in the main base, and the water was pouring all over my counter. So, 5 for being an awesome utensil. -0.5 for having a leaky frame which means cleaning it will be a hassle since I can't soak it before scrubbing, -0.5 for the uneven cooking it does. Minus 0.5 for sticking unless you spray it with PAM first. (the first time I cooked a stew the potatoes and carrots stuck onto the ceramic insert and shredded when I tried to stir it up). Also after dishwashing it seemed to have white reside on it, though on hand-washing it did not seem to have that.It is the perfect size for 3 meals for our household of two. So far it has conquered Pot Roast, Chicken & Dumplings, and turned dry Black eyed peas into an awesome carrot onion bean and sausage dish. I highly recommend this as a starter crock pot, but will probably move on to something a bit more advanced for my next one, and there WILL be a next one cause I'm hooked! Wait, to be fair, since I am a homemaker at the moment, I could just suck this up and use this for the next ten years since I can keep an eye on it, but if that wasn't a fact, I would upgrade next year ;)
