A great toilet for wilderness tripsJan 06, 2010
By L. Jennings I used this toilet in my van for a week long winter camping trip in Southern Utah. It performed beautifully, flushed well, and had absolutely NO smell. The holding tank was easy to empty. The temperatures got down to zero, so a bit of anti-freeze was added to both the fresh water and holding tanks.
I looked at the popular Sanitation Equipment toilet and almost bought it due to all the positive reviews. But this Thetford toilet seemed to be better because of a swiveling dump valve on the holding tank that always stays attached. The Sanitation Equipment toilet had a detachable dump valve that must be screwed on before dumping and then unscrewed after dumping.
To illustrate the point, imagine you've just finished dumping your holding tank and the dump valve just had poo flowing through it. Do you want to then unscrew this poo-covered valve and clean it or stow it in a plastic bag? Or do you just want to screw the cap back on the dump valve, swivel it back in place and be done, as you can do with the Thetford? Personally, I didn't want to deal with any poo-covered items after dumping the toilet. That is why I chose the Thetford instead of the Sanitation Equipment.

What a great product.Works every bit as well as other reviews stated. The permanently attached cleanout nozzel sold me and made the toilet easy to dump and clean. Must be the best portable on the market.

A convenient height for a porta-potti & helpful featuresJan 14, 2011
By SoCal-27 We bought this unit to replace a very similar one that had the flushing mechanism wear out. This item is used continually in the room of a disabled elderly family member and the height of it is especially appreciated. Some other porta-pottis are so low to the ground that it is hard for a disabled person to get up from them. This unit has a pouring spout that makes emptying easier. Not a fun job, but somebody has to do it. All-in-all, it is a tightly sealed, well-made appliance and very appreciated by the elderly mom who uses it.

Excellent Porta PottiJul 27, 2011
By Redvanilla We spent a week on our pontoon boat and this was great to have along. It was a good height for sitting. The piston pump worked great, no leaks. Used the chemical that came with it and it never smelled. The fact that it comes apart into 2 seperate containers and each has a carry handle is great. Carry the bottom half to where you need to empty it at, turn the drain tube around, unscrew the cap and empty it. It was really easy. There is a place between the two compartments to store the bottle of chemical, there is a pull latch that you pull open when you flush it and then push it shut when you are done. The lid locks shut also. It has an indicator gauge so you know when it's getting full. We loved it.
