Easy TransitionNov 13, 2009 We've made the transition from bottles with nipples to sippy cups with our year-old boy. We used Avent bottles so the simplest solution transition was to use the Avent sippy cup. It worked splendidly. No problem at all. Next, my wife came home with a second variety, the Safe Sippy by Kid Basix. She wanted it because it was toxic free, plus it's simple and easy to clean.
Our boy made an instant transition to the new sippy cup. No problems. He seemed to find it easier, in fact. So, it's now in heavy rotation with the Avent cups and we've been using it mostly for fruit juices.

They were nice...at firstOct 15, 2009 We liked these cups so much at first that we bought 4. We have used them exclusively for about 6 months now. We wash them in the dishwasher according to the instructions. Unfortunately (for our bank account!) they are all leaking. The oval rings no longer stay in place, and the valves often fall into the liquid. The silicone rubber protectors are nice, but they get moldy underneath. They are too difficulty to take on/off for every wash to avoid getting the mold (the directions say they can be washed in the dishwasher with the silicone protectors on...) So, overall a waste of [$]! Our 18 month old does like drinking from them though, so I guess if you can afford to replace them, go for it! I just bought 2 Klean Kanteens, so we'll see how they fare!
it breaksOct 08, 2009 My daughter loved this cup but we had to throw it away. We replaced the first lid at the store that we bought it at because the rubber seal that lines the inside of the lid detached. The second one did the same thing. This makes the cup leak a lot so it's useless when it is broken. She still talks about it and I have to explain that we threw it away which is not easy for a 3 year old.

Very, VERY disappointedOct 08, 2009 I had been looking for a nice, sturdy sippy that would hold up to my 1-year-old's bad habit of throwing his cups from his crib. I'm also BPA conscious, so this seemed like a good alternative. I mean, it's hard to crack stainless steel, right?
I purchased a blue one from BabiesRUs for about $12 or so. For the first couple uses this thing worked fine. Then I noticed that the little ring gasket kept coming out. I looked up info on the Safe Sippy's website FAQ page. I read the careful instructions on how to put it in place and I tried several times to insert it correctly. It still kept coming loose! Then I experimented with handwashing and putting it in the dishwasher and discovered that if I handwashed it AND let it air dry, then the gasket stayed in place fine. First problem was solved, but a little bit of a pain to have to handwash it and wait for it to air dry.
A few uses after I got that problem fixed the stupid valve started coming out of the spout and caused the cup to leak everywhere. I again thought that the handwash/air dry combo would keep it in place but alas, IT NEVER HAS. I have stupidly put this cup back in my cabinet several times and forgot the frustration of the leaking after a week or two went by of not using it.
Most recently, dumb me decided to bring it along to the library and I put it in a bag with some books. A little while later I'm sure you can imagine how totally ridiculous I felt as I was in the middle of the children's section with, literally, a PUDDLE of milk at my feet and a steady stream of it coming from my bag. The DUMB VALVE FELL OUT AGAIN!!!! The cup had only been in use for about an hour!!! UGHHH!!! I HATE THIS CUP! I'm throwing it away and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Please don't waste your money!
Wheeew. There. I feel better now.
steel sippy cupSep 10, 2009 I was looking for a steel sippy cup. I like this one, it is easy to clean and my toddler got used to it immediately. For all it's worth, it was only available in pink with free shipping over $25.
