4extremely effective thermalsDec 11, 2008
By Always Reading "moontraces"
I love these thermals. They are loose fitting, and comfortable, but they breath very well and keep me very warm while sleeping. If you want skin tight thermals, these are not the ones to buy.

5Terramar Men's Thermasilk crew neck topJan 17, 2011
By Harmony
This is the only type of thermal my hubby likes to wear. One of the reviewers called them 'panty-hose' tops. That's not accurate because panty-hose are tight and squeeze the life out of you. The thermasilk crew neck top is thin and sheer with a soft fit, but it's made to be worn as a thermal layer under another top. It's not meant to be warn alone, except maybe to bed.

My guy wears these skiing under his regular shirt, or even just for daily wear on really cold days. He wears the silk pants under his ski pants. They wick the moisture and hold the warm layer of air next to his skin without feeling like anything binding or bulky. Vibrationally silk is superior to nylon, and weight- and bulk-wise it's superior to cotton.

If you want a natural fiber, light-weight, soft as silk, thermal layer that stands up to the cold without overheating, then I recommend you try the thermasilk. It's sheer, but it's no panty-hose... it's a superior foundation layer.

3After two months, I'm not so sure...Jan 31, 2011
By J. M.
I've used this top extensively over the past two months since I got it. Pros are that it is comfortable, keeps me moderately warm as a base layer, and can hold up to camping and other outdoor experiences. The cons are that it doesn't wick moisture like it should, and that it could use a little more thickness as it's see-through.

I used this top as a base layer while conducting extensive field work in Antarctica where the temperature was consistently well below freezing. It served me well there, but the extreme cold weather clothes I had been issued did most of the work to keep me warm. Still, this top survived the experience.

In Blacksburg, Virginia, the weather is not as cold comparatively speaking, but that actually brings out the moisture wicking problem. After a brisk hour-long walk on a winter day, I will have sweated a bit. When I get back inside and cool down I really feel the moisture on my torso, and it's uncomfortable. I would not want to use this on a serious hike or camping trip; even inside I can feel the moisture absorbing my body heat.

I've seen some of my friends wearing Patagonia gear as a base layer, and I bought this top as an alternative. This top does a decent job at keeping me warm underneath a few other layers that block the wind, but I do not recommend it for more than light exercise. Even though it is more expensive, Patagonia is probably a better choice for the outdoors.

5Great Base LayerMar 20, 2011
By Mighty
I'm an active person with a lot of perperty, and am an active skier, cyclist, and skater, so I often need a base layer. This is one of my favorites. It regulates body temp better than any other base I have used. What I love about it is that it won't overheat you when the temps rise during the day and workout. They also take less space in a suitcase. They run small, so suggest ordering a size up.

5GREAT INVESTMENTDec 15, 2011
By Lynn Townsend "lpoohbean"
I purchased the Terramar Thermasilk pants, shirt and socks for my husband and he loved them. Really comfortable while outside in the snow - skiing, on the snowmobile, etc. Thin enough to fit under a ski bib, shirt and ski jacket to keep warm without adding extra bulk. I was a bit concerned that they were so thin they wouldn't wash well, but I was wrong. I threw them in the gentle cycle and hung them up to dry without issue. Sizing chart right on the money. These are worth a few extra dollars!
