5Great for Sight Impaired IndividualsSep 07, 2010
By Rachel M. Johanson
Even though I thought this was a little expensive for +$70, I bought this scale for my father. My dads vision has really declined over the last two years, and the Newline Talking Scale we bought for him a while back was junk.

The accuracy on this scale was nearly spot on to the last two DRs visits dad had, & the talking feature provides a very clear voice - clear enough that when I stepped on it with my eyes closed I could understand the weight reading. It has a nice Blue Bar that lights up near the top of the unit that my dad says he uses when he is stepping on it. Unlike other talking scales out there, this one is quite an attractive unit. The Silver "Border" gives it a unique and very nice appearance.

I really think you get what you pay for - and this one was worth the extra $ we paid for the 1) Voice & 2) Accuracy we needed for dad.

Kudos to Taylor !

3Taylor Talking ScaleJun 08, 2011
By Chris
My Mother-in law has congestive heart failure and she needs to watch her salt intake and that equates to water retention weight. She has trouble using a conventional scale, so we wanted a scale that could announce the weight in English. In this way, we could hear the weight announcement over the phone while she weighed herself, if necessary and she could hear it without having to worry about visually being able to see it. This scale has less than perfect English. It does not know how to say the teens. So if the weight is 113#, It says "Your weight is One Hundred, Ten, and Three pounds" rather than correctly saying " One Hundred Thirteen pounds". Same is true for ALL the teen weights, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 118, 119 and 211, 212, 213, 214, 215, 216, 217, 218, 219. It is unfortunate the foreign engineer designer's English wasn't better or they didn't have someone knowledgable in English to proof listen to the talking chip before they committed to the scale design.

Other than this, the scale functions normally. It looks nice. It has a nice big display. It speaks loud enough to easily hear. I was not able to confirm accuracy of the digital scale. I have a digital scale from WalMart. Comparing the two scales, this scale's readout was 2# higher than the WalMart scale. Not sure which of the two scales was closer to the actual weight. But there is not a specification for overall accuracy of many of the scales I researched. They only say they readout in 0.2 pounds, but no absolute accuracy. However, this was one of the few scales that could announce the weight in English and other than the minor problems with speaking teen weights properly, did the job for us.

My overall recommendation is ok to buy but beware of the English language flaw.

1Worked for a monthJul 16, 2011
By Neal
I purchased the first scale in May 2011. The scale was defective. The talking feature did not work. I returned the scale for an exchange. On the second scale I received the talking feature did work. However, the scale worked properly for only a month. It then started to give readings several pounds too low. (I have access to sliding weight scale in a gymnasium so I am able to determine my correct weight.) Apparently this Taylor scale is poorly made and completely undependable.
