StuffIt DeluxeJan 09, 2010

I had past experience with this product in earlier versions and had mixed feelings about it. I actually gave up using it as Winzip was less of a haggle to use. BUT on giving it another try with this version I must say I'm very happy with it. It's fast and easy to use.
I've never been too impressed with compression software's ability to compress. mainly because I don't think they compress enough to make their use really worthwhile. StuffIt does a better job that most in my view so I will continue using it. I got it because I will be doing increasing video based work and need to preserve disk space. The fact I've determined to continue using StuffIt denotes my satisfaction with the product, otherwise I'd dump it like a hot potato.
Worked fine for me.Sep 04, 2009
By DISenchanted This software worked fine for me.
I run 3 flavors of XP:
1. XP Home
2. XP Media center edition
3. XP Pro
I did not buy this as a standalone product. It came bundled with 24 other full version apps in the package made by PC Treasures. PCWorks Suite Pro 2009 v2 [also sold here on amazon].
I haven't done much with stuff it since I used it on a mac, years ago.
This is the first time I used it on a windows pc.
Unstable on Vista 64Aug 09, 2009
By N. Madani I have used StuffIt since version 3 on Mac and its first version to be released for Windows. Version 12 was a significant setback as far as interface design and usability were concerned. The 2009 version is practically unusable on Vista 64. I purchased the 2009 upgrade and returned it as Vista 64 was not supported. Later, Stuffit released a Vista 64 shell extension patch and I obtained the software again as a free promotional bundle with another product. I intstalled the program without any errors, including the plugins and applied the shell extension patch from [...].
The Vista 64 shell extension caused the system to reproducibly freeze completely (not even the mouse cursor would move), and the StuffIt plugins for MS Office and PhotoShop CS4 caused serious problems with all applications. The application interface itself had serious flaws. For example it crashed when creating folders in its file dialogs.
As a general consideration, StuffIt's .sit and .sitx compression formats are proprietary and you will be stuck with StuffIt if you use them to archive your data. As a long-term user, I strongly discourage anyone from using StuffIt or any of its proprietary compression formats. You are better off using any of the free and open-source formats. 7-zip has served me well, is free, open-source and works without any problems [...]. There are other free and commercial options out there that are stable and provide better support. Considering the decreasing costs of storage and bandwidth, any small size advantage StuffIt might provide (and that is not a given) would not be worth its serious flaws and proprietary nature.
