I am female, 5' 5" and about 120 lbs and the small vest fits me well. The upper part is just mesh and nylon, which is perfect because it doesn't restrict arm movements at all. The vest sits higher up than other life vests, which makes it good for sitting down (in a kayak or raft). The vest appears to be well made and has several adjustment straps to customize the fit around your body. The flotation part of the vest seems a little thicker than other life vests, but i haven't had to use it in the water yet. The colors (I got tan) are as advertised.

I purchased this vest for kayaking on my sit-on-top and have had a chance to take it out a couple times so far. The jacket is "fitted" so try to make sure you are getting the right size before ordering (if you can try it on locally first, do that). It zips in the front and then there is one adjustable strap in the "lower middle" section to tighten it down snug. Too big and it could bunch up too much and too small and you wont get the zipper zipped. I'm 6'-0" and 210 lbs and I ordered a large and it fits fairly well.
I paddled around for a while with it unzipped and just the strap loosly buckled so that I could get some air. Its pretty comfortable and does not get in the way of paddling since there is little material up top. The padding of the vest is pretty thick though so if you're adverse to bulk around the bottom, this may not be for you. It wasnt enough to bother me. I did jump in the water to see how I would float and it did a fine job.
For calm water paddling, I tend to fold it up and not wear it and this folds up in sections nicely so that I can tuck it under my bungee cords behing me. Decent vest that will do the job!

I was interested in buying one of these but had no idea what size I might be based on the, shall we say, 'sparse' sizing info on this listing. So I confirmed from the Stearns website that these vests size as follows:

The Stearns vest is a basic PFD for canoeing and kayaking. It sits fairly high on your chest, but does not ride up. This PFD does not have all the bells and whistles, but does do what I need it to do.

This will keep you afloat if the boat goes down and store a few snacks while you wait for rescue. Big fan of paying very little but getting something decent. Thanks Stearn and Amazon
