Description:

Bokken is a training sword, used as a relatively safe and inexpensive substitute for a real blade in several martial arts. They are used in the early stages of iaido when a practitioner has not yet reached the level where use of a iaito would be safe. The exception would be when a certain kata involving two people is performed. Then the veteran iaidoka will use a bokken for safety reasons.

4Solid training sword. One small flawAug 28, 2011
By Skeptical purchaser
I received this training sword and it is solid. It can clearly stand up to some abuse as it is made from red oak. It is about roughly the weight of a solid wooden baseball bat and likely has the strength of one. It was longer than expected too, literally making it to scale the same size as most katanas out there. The one gripe I really have and it wasn't much of one as I wasn't even expecting to receive it was with the included hilt guard. It is not attached to the sword and literally just slides on over the top. It does not sit well on its base and Already once while training with it, my partners sword hit the hilt and it completely slide to the side, driving the sword into my fingers. A painful way to learn how useless this little piece of plastic is. Fortunately it is removed just as easy as it is put on so it is on its way to the dumpster as we speak. The sword itself however is solid and a worthy training weapon.

5Very nice quality Bokken with good weightDec 22, 2011
By Greg
I was looking for one to replace one that I had years ago. This is just like it. Good quality and good weight. There is a plastic hilt and rubber gasket that is supposed to keep it there. That part is useless, fits poorly and the gasket is not tight enough to keep it from moving. For a form practice Bokken you do not need that anyway. If you are looking to spar and want protection for your hand this is not a good choice.

4Good for the PriceMay 04, 2012

Heavy, smooth, very sturdy and solid. Great for the price. Also includes small white tsuba.Could be used for practice or self-defense in my opinion.

this bokken as the title says is 100 percent solid people have isues with the hilt however it wasn't even in the description so i view this as an added bonus. this bokken is built to scale and wieght this is the perfect bokken for the money and will stand up to any abuse you throw at it strongly recommendedto all those intrested in sword training or expierienced masters of the sword

5Good valueDec 28, 2011

I purchased this as a present to replace a lost bokken. It was not the most expensive, but is well made. The recipient said that it was a bit lighter than the one lost, but was excellent.
