About everything you will need.Sep 13, 2009
By DR. B Living in north Wisconsin we get hit with some pretty bad weather in the winter. This has just about all you will in case of an emergency. It comes in a nice cloth bag and fits well under our SUV's back seat. I compared it others, e.g. AAA's kit, and you get much more for the money. A lot of other kits are "54 piece" for example but they count 10 band-aids as 10 pieces and 10 handi-wipes as 10 more. What this kit seems to do is combine what would take you two other kits. Some kits have a compressor but not cables, some have cables but not a compressor and so on. This has it all.
I probably would not use the "Slime" itself if I could avoid it, I know its not suppose to damage the tires, but I'm paranoid.
The key with these kits is don't expect the compressor, for example, to put out the power of a tank model. It will fill the tire and get you someplace where you can really fix it, it just takes a while. They are emergency kits, not something you would use everyday and though the items are well built it seems like, are just not built for inflating tires, again for example, every day.

Nice compact unit.Aug 15, 2011

Have used both the jumper cable and the 12 V compressor that were part of the kit and both worked very well. Well worth having this in your car/van for the price. Paid thirty two when this was on sale.

Perfect, but it would be nice if it included an extra pocket.Jul 26, 2011

Jumper cables, a pump, basic first aid, and a utility knife may not be all you would like to keep in your car for emergencies, but it's certainly a good one-size-fits-all idea. Add that this allows you to patch the tire and be on your way without having to remove it and/or replace it with one of those miniature spares and you have a winner.
My only CON is not having even one additional pocket for putting anything you might think to add. For instance, I have emergency blankets, a magnesium fire starter, and bring a Leatherman multi-tool for long road trips not because I live in the middle of nowhere, but rather because I don't. Here in New York City, catastrophe can strike any time and in any number of forms, so it's not unthinkable that in a 9/11 or Katrina sort of situation that you might need to evacuate and perhaps even camp out in your car for a few days.
Sounds ridiculous? Think of these real-life New York City situations:
* Summer 2011 many parts of Queens and Brooklyn experienced blackouts during a heat wave of over 100F temperatures.
* Summer 2006 during a heat wave the power lines actually burst into flames and we had no power for two weeks and change--so of course there was no fresh food and if you all the sudden needed a flat tire repaired so you could get basic supplies, no local shop had any power to replace a tire either.
* Winter 2005 during the holiday season we had a transit strike and lack of enforcement of taxi fares caused them to charge a minimum of $60 for rides that wouldn't normally cost even $20, meaning transportation was dead and even travelling by car was a major challenge as people walked for miles between boroughs over the bridges.
* Summer 2003 vast areas of the northern United States and Canada experienced an epic blackout.
And then of course there are hurricanes, terrorist attacks, and the fact that New York City is not generally fit for human occupation even under normal circumstances.
Yeah, you need an emergency kit for your car.
