BewareDec 27, 2010

What a major disappointment. This was intended as a gift for Christmas. I really wish that I had listened to the other 1 star reviews and avoided this product completely. We tried it on a bottle of room temperature wine for an hour before the desired temperature was on the readout. We felt the bottle and it was clearly NOT at 42 degrees. I double checked it with a infrared gun and it was still in the 50's. So not only did it take too long, the reading is inaccurate. I had looked into returning it and found that I would have pay for the shipping charges. Please look elsewhere for a better product and do not waste you time or money on this chiller.

Takes forever to chill a bottleSep 24, 2010
By James Kitchen Don't buy this piece of junk. It takes at least an hour to even remotely chill a bottle of wine. It also has a warming function, but not sure what that would ever be used for.

No memory on power fail.Dec 08, 2010
By nanowiz I bought this chiller for keeping liquid fish food for my aquarium. It works well for the purpose except that the set temperature returns to 59F after a power fail. The unit is quite well constructed. The cooling cup is metal with the heat pump attached to the bottom of the cup. It does cool down this cup quite quickly, but for a bottle of wine, heat transfer between the bottle and the cup is not efficient like in a bucket of ice water. The manual says not to get the unit wet, so putting water in the cup to aid heat transfer is probably a bad idea. I put the liquid food in a plastic feeding bag rolled up inside the cup. I ran a thermal couple inside the folds of the bag. With the temperature set at 33F, the unit will cycle on and off as the cup cools down to 33 and them warming up quickly to the bag's temperature after the heat pump turns off. It take quite a while to get the bag of 500cc room temperature liquid down while this cycling goes on. At steady state, the unit cycles between 33F and 37F while my thermal couple reads 37F. This is probably caused by heat leaking back in through the heat sink warming up the cup's bottom.
Doesn't really do anythingSep 27, 2011
By flatmatt Well, I bought this "brand new" from a thrift store for $4. From the bits of wrapping paper on the bottom, it was obviously donated after being received as a gift. I bought it for use with beer, and found that it didn't really work with 12 ounce bottles, okay, fine. But then I go up to a 750 mL bottle, and it still doesn't remotely work. It's pretty obvious that it heats from the bottom and senses the temperature there, so if your bottle doesn't have a flat bottom, it's going to have no idea what temperature it's at. I put in a bottle from the fridge, hoping to warm it up instead of waiting for it to warm up on its own, and I have to set it above room temperature just to get it in warming mode. Thirty seconds later, it's "warm," or rather, the bottom of the chilling compartment is. No effect on the bottle. Now if I could put water in there or something it would make sense.
Sorely DisapointedSep 07, 2011

I recieved this cooler thinking it would have a smaller footprint than the Koolatron I had, I was wrong, the base is large and round, where the Koolatron is oval and large. This was not my only dislike, this unit sounds like a thrashing machine, the fan is very noisey, and the unit does NOT cool worth a hoot. I put a bottle in it and an hour later it was slightly chilled but not cold > > the Koolatron was way better in the cooling department. I finally boxed it back up and returned it, and ordered another Koolatron, a much better cooler for ths same approx. price.
