First Alert Smoke DetectorNov 04, 2011
By L. Edwards After my house filled with smoke and my 2 Kiddie smoke detectors did not alarm, I replaced them with this First Alert model. I had already installed a First Alert SA320CN in the basement when the Kiddie I had there unexpectedly fell on the floor and broke (never did figure out why.)
After the Kiddie alarms failed to work, I tested the First Alert in the basement by starting a smoky fire in a metal container. The First Alert alarmed as expected.
Since my experience with the Kiddie detectors, after installing them, I will test alarms in the future with actual fire & smoke. The little "test" button on the Kiddie detector always worked, but that didn't assure that it would work in an emergency.
Note: the SA320CN has replaced a prior model, SA302, which has been discontinued.

Straightforward life-saver -- highly recommendedSep 19, 2011

I purchased four of these at once to replace my four aging smoke alarms. I like these units because they are inexpensive, compact, easy to install, they have two methods of detecting fire or smoke, and they run on inexpensive, easy-to-replace AA batteries. (I have never liked 9-volt batteries.) If you need a good, well-rated unit in a stand-alone smoke & fire alarm, this is the one for you. If you need a networked unit, I believe First Alert produces such a unit, but that feature will cost you more. The SA320CN is highly recommended.

Battery smoke detectorAug 21, 2011

I replaced several battery operated smoke detectors with this model. They were easy to install and are working perfectly. I especially like the feature that will allow me to replace the batteries without removing the unit from the ceiling.

Good Alarm but incorrect product information.Feb 09, 2012
By NY Psychotherapist I bought 14 of these for our home mainly because there appeared to be a feature that allowed the user to mute the alarm using a tv remote. Nope, not true. Just got off the phone with First Alert, agent states this feature was discontinued. So, if this is an important feature to you, BEWARE!

SA320 Does NOT Have TV Remote Silence FeatureJan 23, 2012
By William Baker Two First Alert SA320 units(SA320CN - same)received today. Amazon performance extraordinary, as usual. Units were ordered Saturday and received Monday. Thanks Amazon!
The First Alert SA302 has a feature to silence the alarm using a TV remote control unit. Several of these units are used in our high ceilings and the ability to silence the horn with the TV remote is useful.
The product description for the SA320 on the Amazon site lists the TV remote silence as a feature. Unfortunately, this is not the case. The First Alert manual enclosed with the product makes no mention of the TV remote feature. First Alert Customer Affairs advised that the TV remote feature was never in the SA320 unit. Further, he advised that First Alert does not now offer a smoke alarm with that feature. He did say that a combination CO/Smoke unit does still have the TV remote feature.
I'm disappointed that the TV remote feature is no longer available. I am keeping the units and giving them a 5 star rate based on experience with other First Alert smoke alarms. Hopefully Amazon will revise the sales literature to remove the TV remote feature.
