4Good Product, be mindful of connectionSep 09, 2009
By Mike M
This is a great choice if you're a new Sirius subscriber. The radio with a big screen/LCD type look is a waste of money if you live up north where the cold weather can cause the screen to freeze. The "pause" capability is exactly like a DVR/Tivo in that you can take a call or whatever and not lose a joke, part of a song, etc. My only point of caution is your connection type. I'm using an AUX input and have some trouble with static. Sirius is providing great customer service though by sending me a direct FM adapter that should alleviate the problem.

5This other reviewer has no idea what he is talking aboutJan 03, 2009

This item was released WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY before the XM sirius merger. Meaning this product has nothing to do with any agreements. Not only did the other reviewer put no input on the device itself, but Basically only stated he wanted it cheaper... A.K.A., something for nothing. The radio is still the best availible, comes with the ability to rewind and pause your current channel, much like Tivo... just for the radio. You can store your favorite sports teams so you can be updated with scores, as well as game times. Considering the price, and the features it has, this is still, in my opinion, the best radio that is out there. The other reviewer is unfair, and obviously just wanted to get something for almost nothing and expect amazing things. Also The merger has nothing to do with the actual product, very biast opinion.

1Equipment SUCKS!Sep 14, 2010
By J.A. "shoebox"
I have had Sirius since 2005. I love Sirius radio, the only issue I have with it is the equipment!I have gone through 4 head units in 5 years. It is very obvious this stuff is built to fall apart. The provided antennas have had to be replaced a few times. the connectors become lose causing the "no antenna detected" nightmare. The boom box I also bought in less than 6 months had power cord issues. I've had to take head units apart to solder parts myself just to get a few more miles out of them before buying new ones. They give you the "luxury" of being able to move the head unit from one car to another or to the house or boom box, but over time pulling and pushing the head unit from docking stations begins to break it down. With all the money I spent on equipment replacement, I was probably better off from the start just buying 2 head units with 2 subscriptions and never touching the dam things. My starmate 5 just took a crap.it is just about a little over a year old and now I'm off to buy yet another head unit. I recommend Sirius to everyone, but Sirius, your equipment is junk. You should be ashamed to put your name on this crap. My one star review is for this pile of garbage equipment and all other radio equipment Sirius sells. By all means enjoy Sirius, but handle the equipment like a new born baby

1Starmate 5, 1 year, three replacement radios.Mar 08, 2012
By CentralNavigator
I have been a subscriber to Sirius for one year. I am now on my fourth Starmate 5 radio. When the original radio breaks, if it is still under warranty, you are issued a refurbished unit. When the refurbished unit breaks, you are issued another refurbished unit. Each time, Sirius requires that you pay to ship them back the broken unit, so that they can refurbish it, and you receive a refurbished one in return. In some cases, the Sirius Customer Care rep will try to charge you a new activation fee unless you threaten to unsubscribe. In conclusion, I would not select the Starmate 5 as a radio if you choose to subscribe to Sirius.

2Equipment sucks - 2Oct 09, 2011

I'm with the guy writing 'equipment sucks - review 1'.
It's nice to see these happy customers in their first week, all nested in.
I never planned on spending this much time repurchasing and reinstalling parts and pieces. And i don't make time to do it. I'm paying the subsciption fees and only about half the time do i have a working unit. Today, here i go again, buying another new piece to try to get it back working. It's been all summer since i've gotten to listen to it. Don't look at Happy Fun Ball and Don't Look at XM equipment. Both are a wallet drain.
