4Excellent...Mar 13, 2011
By Jacque Strapp
Perhaps I should have ordered one size smaller because it's a bit puffy on the sides (and makes that annoying slushing sound when you walk around) but all in all, I really appreciate these pants on a rainy day - especially when the rain is coming down at a 45 degree angle (and umbrellas are useless). It's breathable as far as I gather - I'm not sweating in them. The material/fabric is very good and resilient (as far as I can tell). Wore it twice so far.

There's a deep back pocket for things you need immediately. Some have complained about there being no front pockets... it shouldn't matter a whole lot since you can reach under the rain pants (the string elastic) and into your pant pockets (unless you're not wearing anything underneath - then you have issues).

You also have a durable web pouch to pack your pants in when not in use - comes in handy to transport in the morning for when it rains during the afternoon commute from work.

I rarely rate anything 5-stars - and for these pants, I will gladly give it 5 stars if it takes care of the following:

1. Less "puffiness" in the leg area - perhaps add some mesh stretch material around the back and at the knees to make it less thick-looking but "gives" when you stretch (sit down, bend down, run, etc.);

2. Tighter waist area - it keeps slipping down but perhaps I need a smaller size;

3. Zippers are not necessary down the leg - that's what velcro is for!!; and

4. Make the pants smaller to pack - when packed in its bag, it's the size of a large canteen. While lightweight, making it smaller would be an even bigger plus.

5A Great BuyNov 04, 2011
By George Oboza
My waist: 32 inches
My inseam: 30 inches
Size bought: Small
Fit: Outstanding. Looks and feels custom-made for my size.
Most valuable feature: The full-length zippers that go from the hips all the way down to the ends of the rain pants. Easy on and off -- even with bulky, waterproof boots on.

SUMMARY

If you know about dogs, you know that they can get excited in going out for walks. Even if it rains, I still take mine out for his walks. So in gearing up, these rain pants require only a few seconds to put on. And in terms of the pants' waterproofing ability, it's been excellent; my jeans underneath have remained dry. Durability-wise, it's also been excellent. There hasn't been any leaks, holes, rips, or tears in the miles that I've walked using them.

Plus, another nifty feature is its portable stowing size. It rolls to about the size of two toilet paper rolls stacked end-to-end, but even thinner. Finally, when it comes to fashion, they look like athletic sweatpants, as they're made from nylon, coated with Teflon, and tailored with garment wizardry, such as taped seams, and other methods that I don't know.

But what I do know, however, is that they work, they fit well, they're sturdy so far, and they look good. So they wouldn't be an embarrassment in going to work, school, shopping, or wherever else you have in mind during a downpour. So overall, these Red Ledge Unisex Adult Thunderlights have been a great buy for me.

5Solid PantsJan 25, 2011
By potted fern "Potted Fern"
I've commuted by bicycle 7 miles in wind-free 9-degree weather in these with long johns underneath--and was comfortable. I've also biked in temps in the 30s without long johns, and the pants are comfortable and airy (but not too airy).

5Great Motorcyle Commuting PantsMar 08, 2012
By Michael J. Schmieder
Wore these over a pair of insulated Carhart pants as I rode my motorcycle to and from work in the rainy Pacific Northwest. I have a ten mile one way commute and during 2010-2011 I rode about 90% of the time, unfortunately even got caught in the snow. I rode in low 30 degree temps and in tons of rain at 60 m.p.h. No fairing on my bike, just a small windshield, so it's just me and the elements. Can't rave enough about these pants, excellent quality, provide great wind protection in the cold, and very important - I stayed dry!

5Awsome productFeb 02, 2012

I have had a pair of these for at least 5 years and take them on backpacking trips 2 to 3 times a year, their still in perfect condition. Easy to get in and out of, light weight,and very packable. Been in several rain storms in them and never been wet, been in -10 deg weather and snow and they've held up perfectly. I like them so much, I just bought my wife a pair for a trip to the Boundary Waters.
