Simplicity. Control more than FrontRow! Buttons could be Better. Works in Windows.Jun 05, 2006
By D. Ward The control is dead simple, and is very easy to pick up and use without looking at it. It installs as a keyboard--on Mac and Windows!--meaning the control can be used in any application! This is a great plus since many applications on the Mac use the four arrow keys and space bar for navigation! (The Keyspan FR behaves like a keyboard, albeit a keyboard with only the arrow keys and five other keypresses hardwired: sleep, FrontRow Command-ESC, eject, space, and mute.) Look somewhere else if you need more buttons.
I give this four stars because the buttons could be easier to press. The buttons are more like a traditional TV remote control's buttons, and need to be pressed the same way. The problem is that the remote is so thin that pressing the buttons is a little more work than if they would have been touch-sensitive (or the remote had been thicker rather than wider). In the left hand, the buttons feel much better!
This is very useful for FrontRow navigation, and general application navigation (e.g. presentations, or iPhoto editing). It works from the next room, and plugs into the USB ports on the back of Macs or on the Mac keyboards. While it's not the most comfortable remote in the right hand, it is a great, simple and inexpensive way to control your Mac from afar.

Don't buy thisAug 09, 2006
By Micah N. Gorrell This product was absolutely awful. First of all it is VERY picky about the USB port you are using. My first attempt was to use it through a USB hub, because my mac mini doesn't have enough free ports. It did not like the USB hub at all.
The second issue I had was range. I was not able to use it from more than 20 feet away, and even within 10 feet it was not able to go through items at all. This is an RF remote, but it still required line of site to work reliably. I was able to stop it from working by putting it behind a large pillow. Pathetic.

Simple but all you need for Front RowMar 09, 2008
By J. Morrison
"Your average consumer"
I found the description for this product a little lacking when I was looking for a remote for use with my Mac Mini and Front Row 2. I ended up buying it without feeling real good about whether it would meet my needs. I'm happy to say it did. Quite simply, let me tell you what this remote WILL do...
1. Toggle back and forth between the Mac OS and Front Row 2. Toggle the computer to sleep, then wake it up again. Very useful feature. 3. Raise and lower the volume of the Mac. 4. Play and pause 5. Skip forward using a single click of the right or left arrows 6. Fast forward in three different speeds by holding down the right or left arrow keys. 7. Eject the DVD from the Mac. Good feature considering Macs don't have a way to eject without using the keyboard. 8. Mute the volume.
So far as I can tell, but I could be wrong, this remote WILL NOT control anything but Front Row...other than the volume of the Mac and ejecting DVD's or CD's. Other keyspan remotes can be programmed to work with other apps, if you need that. The others, however, require software installation and setup, and cost quite a bit more.
The distance on this remote is really, really great... regardless of what you may have read from other customers. I can only assume they got a bad unit. I can use mine from the other side of my house, through walls and around corners.
One other thing to know... not a negative, just something you need to know up front... the USB dongle on this remote requires it be plugged into a USB port directly on the Mac... which means you can't use it plugged into a USB hub or the Mac keyboard.
In the interest of full disclosure...I purchased this from Amazon, but after a week of waiting I discovered they hadn't even shipped it yet, even though it was "In Stock" when I ordered. I then became frustrated and purchased from a local retailer. The amazon item eventually showed up and I returned it as I have no need for 2 of them. So, while I can and do recommend this item, I didn't technically get mine from Amazon.

Works great with Front RowJan 03, 2007
By DR I bought this remote to run Front Row on an older (G4) iMac. It works perfectly, and I have had no problems. The remote itself is a bit ugly but other than that this is a great product. For more information about how to run Front Row on your older mac, [...]
