Amazing quality, when you get the right one!Mar 25, 2011
By oopsies When you hold this card in your hands, you know that you're getting a well built product. Unfortunately I had to go through 2 RMA's to get the "right" card. The first one was DOA, card would crash as Windows 7 64-bit loaded up. The second card was great.. except one of the fans were making horrible clicking noises. Third one works like a charm!..*knock on wood* I've only had it up and running for about 2 hours but there were no signs of artifacting or any other quality control issues. I have the card on the "Silent" operation mode and although its definitely not silent, it was noticeably quieter than when the fan profile was set on "Performance". Even on "Silent", the card has not gone over 63C in SoCal ambient temperatures, which is really good.. but we'll see how this card holds up during the summer.
I have the card running with a SeaSonic SI2-II 430W, and it works flawlessly. I have stress tested the card for about half an hour with the newest version of MSI Kombuster, and ran 5 passes of Unigine's Heaven benchmark with no problems. I'm very satisfied with the FPS I'm getting in Crysis Warhead, Dirt 2, F1 2010, Black Ops.. I could keep going on and on, basically it plays everything I want it to at max settings. And for reference I have this with an Intel E8400 at 4.0Ghz and 4GB of ram, so I'm definitely happy with the new life this card has given my, I guess you could say aging system compared to these new Intel and AMD offerings.
For this price range you should also be considering the Nvidia 560GTX, however I wanted something that was relatively quiet and low-powered, because the rest of my computer is fairly quiet in an Antec Solo case w/ Nexus Fans, and I've only got a 430 watt unit, and the 560GTX uses more power, especially when overclocked. Anyway I highly recommend this MSI card, as the quality is amazing, so amazing that I stuck with it after it gave me problems twice because I knew once I got a working unit I'd be completely satisfied, and I am which reflects my 5-star rating!
quiet and powerfulMay 15, 2012
By James King I've been using this video card for about 8 months now and it still works amazingly. It is a very quiet card, not once have I heard the fan. I've been able to play games like Skyrim, Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and Battlefield 3 at 1920 x 1080 with HIGH graphics settings. The frame rates have always been GREAT.
When I first purchased this card, I thought I would want to get a second one for AMD Crossfire, but to be honest, there is no need, not even with new video game releases.
A great upgrade for my Early 2008 Mac ProMar 01, 2012
By Phil Rosenthal My Mac Pro was starting to feel slow when driving my dual 30" screens, compared to the snappiness of my newer MacBook Pro. On a hunch that it was simply the graphics card holding me back, I bought this, and a power cable PCIe PCI-e Power Cable for Mac G5 nVidia ATI Video Card - High Quality ...
It's a little bit of a challenge to plug in the power cable on the Logic Board (poor design on apple's part), but in under 30 minutes, I was done, and the system booted without any changes -- I'm running OS X Lion, and didn't install any extra drivers. The only "gotcha" is that there is no boot screen, so you might have to swap back to the standard graphics card if you need access to that screen for some reason -- this hasn't been a problem for me for nearly a year.
All said and done, this card is very fast, and I can now have huge quantities of apps/tabs/windows open without any delays. I don't game or mine bitcoins or anything, but the card is great for my 2D needs.
Also, the cooling system on this card is great, and the card runs totally silent.
As far as I know, this is the fastest card available that has support under OS X Lion 10.7
UPDATE: After following instructions from the "netkas" forum, I was able to install a patched EFI ROM to my card, and I now have a boot screen. This may be a bit challenging if you're not highly technical, and isn't necessary, but it is nice.
Great cardOct 28, 2011
By RayRay Card has provided solid performance. It is very quiet and seems to remain fairly cool even after I tried to push its limits.
Great card.Aug 26, 2011
By Sithis The card is very powerful for a mid-priced piece of hardware. It eats up whatever you throw at it. Personally, my outdated CPU is bottlenecking it, but otherwise it's performing admirably well.
It is however very large and I had to do some rewiring on my mobo to seat it correctly. It's somewhere around nine inches, so make sure you have enough space. It also requires two empty slots on the back of your PC.
I'm more than pleased.
