The blade is hand-forged high-carbon steel and differentially hardened using a traditional claying method (HRC 60 edge, HRC 40 spine) with a medium (chu) kissaki. The temper line (hamon) is evident and prominent. The Practical Plus Tanto uses a flat black saya and a black cotton sageo. The tsuka has genuine ray skin (same) and the tsuka-ito is black synthetic leather for better gripping qualities. This is legit, CAS Hanwei makes beautiful edged weapons. When i first bought the tanto i was afraid i would have been cheated out of my money, but what i bought is what i paid for. The blade itself is very sharp, i cut the box it came in in half with one swing. The tanto comes with a small black bag to wrap the sheathed blade when not in use. The handle is well made, and the blade has a nice feel when held. The only problem i wish it came with a polishing kit, because the blade was a little dirty when i got it. P.s. it also came with information on how the blade was made and instructions for care. I'm looking forward to buying from CAS Hanwei again.
