4Good Product - Expensive support & misleading sales repsAug 18, 2011
By Fairly Happy Customer
The product and support is good, just expensive. Sage Peachtree pushes for upgrade every year, but actually you only need to upgrade every three years; they just don't tell you. I know because I've been using Peachtree for the last 16 years. If you want good support you need to purchase support every year which can be less expensive than upgrade. If you use the payroll you will need to purchase tax services as well. Support is apox $289 for single users & tax service aprox $269. So instead of upgrading just purchase support and tax service and you save program upgrade money.

5Satisfied AgainOct 20, 2011

I assist my clients in acquiring and installing Peachtree software and have purchased from Amazon.com on more than one occasion and I always receive exactly what I ordered and it always comes by the estimated delivery date and often before.
Ordering is always very easy.

Peachtree software provides high end functionality in a low end software at a very fair price. I personally pretty much only install the Complete version as it provides the most features and the best value for the price. If you are looking to do payroll than a separate payroll tax service is necessary each year (same as Quickbooks) and there are ways to acquire the payroll tax service at a price that is less than what Sage markets it for.

The software does have to be upgraded at least every three years in order to receive program updates and utilize the payroll tax service as well as support. (same as Quickbooks)

With proper installation, setup and training, Peachtree is a very easy product to use and can be easily customized to fit a wide variety of businesses.

When considering a software product the number one consideration should be the reporting capabilities and Peachtree by far provides far superior reporting functionality and customization when compared to it's nearest competitor.

4Good product, watch the upgrades from SageSep 22, 2011

I like Peachtree and it's an excellent accounting software. Maybe not as simple as Quickbooks, but I think it's more robust. Since it's not the standard anymore it doesn't interact with as many 3rd party products or credit card processing as Quickbooks. I just got my upgrade notice to go from 2010 to 2012 for the "discounted price" price of $224 from Sage, but as you can see you can buy it from Amazon for $149.

1Awful customer service, decent product.Jan 11, 2012

Note: This is an amended version of a review posted earlier.

I had used an older version of Peachtree for many years and was perfectly happy with it. But when I got a new computer running Windows 7, it no longer worked, so I had to buy a current version of Peachtree.

First, a Peachtree customer service rep told me that the the current version of Peachtree would not recognize or convert my old data. So 13 years of business records would be lost.

Then, when I tried to load Peachtree Complete Accounting 2012, it would not install. The error message read: "To install Sage Peachtree, at a minimum, you must have one of the following operating systems: Windows XP SP3, Windows XP (64-bit) SP2, WIndows Vista SP1, Windows 7 Home, or Windows Server 2003 SP1."

Then, I discovered that Peachtree customer service is even worse. Twice I called tech support only to wait more than one hour on hold each time. When I finally got through to someone, he told me to install SP 3.5. Only there's no SP 3.5 for Windows 7. I did install every Windows update available, rebooted my computer, tried to install Peachtree and came up with the exact same error message.

Then I tried to get tech support via online chat. The message said, you are number 4 in the queue, average wait time is four minutes. Some 45 minutes later, I finally got through to someone. He told me to adjust my UAC settings, which I did. I then had to reboot my computer to have them take effect which meant we would be cut off. He told me to email him if it didn't work. Well, it didn't work, I sent an email, and he never replied.

Taking one last stab at solving the problem, I posted a question on a discussion group. Soon someone posted the solution, which was quite simple, involving right-clicking the setup application, clicking "troubleshoot compatibility" and unchecking a box. That did the trick. Why was there no one at tech support who could tell me this?

Finally, I thought I'd try copying my old data and seeing if Peachtree would convert it. After a few false starts, it actually did. Obviously, I'm very happy this is the case, but why did Peachtree's own customer service folks tell me it wouldn't work?

To make a long story short, everything seems to have worked out and the software seems to be working properly, but what a mess and waste of time to make it happen.

5New peachtree userJan 21, 2012

I just wanted to let every know how happy I am with Peachtree. I run a small handyman service as well as a photography business, and I have been using quickbooks for many years. The switch to Peachtree was quick and easy, and I found it very intuitive and easy to use, which was important for me since I am NOT an accountant!! Great product, very powerful, and EASY TO USE!!
