First off let me say this, I am a 12 year IT professional and I use this software.
Those that gave this a negative review don't understand the purpose of PC Tools Performance Toolkit. One reviewer said it doesn't have any real-time functionality. Yes it does. It has real time registry scanning and auto runs a registry based on a set of criteria you determine, such as number of errors or based on a schedule.
It's true this application runs a few things that Windows can do independently, but many users don't know how to rub them, and this centralizes and automates them. It also adds many things Windows can't do, and some things windows cant do well. For example Disk Fragmenter. Windows can defrag, but it does not do it well. PC Tools Performance Toolkit has it's own defrag that is a must have for people working with large files such as movies. Or thousands of pictures/music.
Another great feature is the cleaning tool. Many people think if they simply erase their cookies they have hidden what they have done online. It would take me, or any trained professional like myself all of 30 seconds to find your online activity even if you have cleared it. With the cleaning tool in this utility your online history is truly removed. It uses complex algorithms to wipe the data.
I would recommend PC Tools Performance Toolkit to anyone looking to maintain the speed of a new PC, increase the speed of an old PC, or to keep their online activity private. There are many many other things this utility can do, these are just the highlights.

Like others I am neither a computer expert or novice, but somewhere in the middle ground, and I have learned the hard way on previous occasions not to have too much faith in registry "cleaners", or performance "boosters" such as this claims to be.
First off, it is relatively inexpensive for some good adjustment options for most levels of experience, and a 3 computer license subscription for a year is certainly appealing at this price. It will be interesting to see if there's a price hike to renew in 12 months.
Secondly, it's very easy to install and operate, and will appeal to people who like (and trust) software to fix all their computer problems as they see them.
Thirdly, it has real time system monitoring once installed, and an easy "one click" clean up. For these reasons I gave it 3 stars (mainly for price).
It immediately scanned my system and reported over 2000 problems, clicking the fix it now button then reported that my PC health was low, and another series of checks and removals moved it to Medium. The Scan result screen is straightforward enough, and if you don't want the complete clean up you can select individual tasks I assume aimed at more computer savvy users, like "Clean Registry," "Defragment your Registry," "Tuneup your Services," "Optimize your System," "Clean your Disks,"and "Shred Your Files".
All sounds good doesn't it?
Well in reality, boot times, PC speed and pretty much every other aspect of the PC I first installed it on didn't really change.
I ended up removing some essential registry file the software did not recognize that were actually legitimate, and overall the impact was negligible.
Add to this that you now also have yet another resource sapping program running constantly in the background.
Bottom line is that it contains some good tune up utilities and did a reasonable job getting rid of some of the junk on my computer, but not that noticeable really.
I would recommend the far superior Iolo System Mechanic 10 instead.

My computer was slow. Most likely because it was full of junk files and other items that needed deleted. After installing this product, it went to work, and my computer hasn't really been slow with it installed. Definitely worth buying!
Too bad you have to renew it every year... :(

Easy to install and works just great along with the PC Tools Security program. My computer runs faster and is a lot easier to clean up when needed. Will buy again from Amazon.com

I'm not one to get into utility programs, but this renewed my speed and performance of an older XP desktop pc. Very easy to use. It did not have quite the dramatic effect on our Vista laptop though, but it did correct numerous issues. It's well worth $30 and PC Tools is among the best.
