Chenille Cutter has some difficultiesOct 21, 2011
By audrey I'm new to the art of chenille quilting and I figured the cutter would save a lot of time and effort. It does work amazingly well but collects lint between the blade and the housing. I have to stop cutting and take the tool apart to clean regularly. I don't know if there is some engineering that could alleviate this problem.

Works but poor quality productMar 04, 2012
By A. Doll I am very disappointed with this product. I like the look of chenille blankets but I don't like the time it takes to cut the channels with scissors. I had been making blankets with 1/2" channels. When I got this product, I wanted to see the different looks created by using the smaller channel widths-- 3/8", 1/4", and 1/8". So, I started by making six 9 x 9" samplers using 2 or 3 layers of fabric to make the chenille with each of the channel widths. Using this product was not as easy as I expected it to be. Worse, I was unable to produce uniform results with careful use of this product-- sometimes it would cut down the midline and sometimes veer off to one side which makes the finished chenille look really bad.
The instructions say you can use it to cut up to 8 layers of fabric. I used the chenille cutter to cut 2 and 3 layers of lightweight flannel which was not easy. I will not even try 4 layers of the lightweight material I am using.
The product is not of the high quality that I associate with the Olfa brand. Lint gets caught near the blade and I frequently have to take the product apart to clean it-- once every 5 to 10 minutes of cutting! Cleaning the bare blade is not fun. The product consists of the blade, a ratchet dial, and two plastic halves that fit together to encase the blade. The plastic halves don't quite fit together, leaving a gap which can catch on the fabric while you are running it through a channel.
I was careful to sew my channels with consistent widths. At times, the chenille cutter did not cut down the center of the channel but veered off to one side of a seam, effectively ruining the whole project. This happened when cutting just 2 or 3 layers of material!
Expect to advance the blade a few times during every medium-sized project (30 x 30" baby blanket) because the blade wears out very quickly which causes the blade to mediate from the center of the channel and ruin your entire project.
Finally, the shape of the product is awkward to grip in order to pull it through the fabric channels.
Overall, I'm not sure if this product is worth it. It makes it fairly easy to cut your chenille projects but it also makes it very easy to ruin your chenille projects.

This is a great product @ a great price, I had been wanting one but did not want to pay the price that Olfa was asking or the stores that carried it. It was a very good deal as with everything that I have bought from Amazon.
great timesaver!!!Dec 20, 2011
By Cindy in DE I bought this cutter to make chenille scarves for Christmas gifts this year. It does an amazing job, reducing the time spent on cutting the chenille by about 90%. It works with 1/2, 3/8, 1/4/ and 1/8 inch channels. I found that it was easier to start a line of cutting with a 1" scissor cut, but the cutter does a fantastic job ripping through the cuts in almost no time at all. It can tire your hand if you have a lot of channels to cut, though. Overall, it is an excellent tool for the price, and the 23 blade positions makes it really thrifty in my book. Nice tool!
So much easier than scissors!Jun 24, 2011
By Laura Prettyman Wow! I love this cutter! I did the cutting on my first chenille baby blanket using scissors, then bought this to make my second. What a difference! I was done in a fraction of the time.
