Sweet SetupJul 03, 2011
By Rex Gill
"xerletom"
Great range, nice look, loud enough for 1/4 acre pool area.Setup is a snap.Stereo sound with a mild low end punch.Could be a bookshelf indoor system approaching the high priced upscale models. Not audiophile sound but execrably good for this price point. Would love to add more speakers to this system and would buy again without remorse. Keynote when shopping the other systems. STERO !!!
Others may just be in (Mono) and lacking the true separation (Stereo) offers. Multiple speakers may not mean Stereo. Just music from several points and lacking the true presentation and sound stage. That thin sound that am radio has. Yuck!!! In summary. If you want that (Stereo) sound you must look for the word. Descriptions of other systems in this marketplace may not say Stereo. For good reason. Its (Mono). You may be disappointed with the sound of a Mono system. Nothing flat about this system. If you use your Iphone with this system. Your calls will be ringing over the speakers so you wont miss a call. You can take the call without unhooking from the dock. However, everyone in the range of the speakers can hear your call as well. You can always pull the plug if privacy in needed. Rock on ;-)

Good PurchaseJul 25, 2011
By Biggs Speakers shipped very quickly and arrived in good condition. Very easy setup . I just opened the box and plugged them in. They work great and have really clear sound. I have only had them for 5 days so we will see how they do over time. I use them outside on my patio and transmit from my living room and they work really well.
The speakers do come with ac power adapters for each (this wasn't too clear in the description). The audio cables that come with them are the red and white audio cords that go into the transmitter and the other end is the normal headphone jack. I had to us the extra audio cords i had to hook to my TV (which is what i needed it for) So FYI make sure your tv has the right outputs if you want to connect these speakers to it. Overall I was pleased with my purchase and have no complaints.

Not as Enthused as Others, but it WorksAug 05, 2011
By G. Ng Just got these the other day so here are my first impressions.
SOUND: Not nearly as good as I had hoped. The sound is at times "unstable". I bet if you ran a solid test tone it wound sound a bit broken up versus a constant tone. In an outdoor setting, perhaps this is good enough but don't think for a second that the sound will be close to a wired speaker. In fact, I have some cheapo wired speakers run with cheapo speaker wire strung up 50 feet from a really cheapo stereo and that setup sounds better. The sound from the Mutants is close to if you took a couple of cheap FM radios and put them in the yard. Not much bass (no real lows in fact) and a muddy high end. Don't expect sizzle from the highs.
That said, it's not bad for background music. Just know that it's not the type of speaker you turn up to really enjoy the music. Around the pool where people are playing, during a dinner party where people are talking, it's fine. I got mine to enjoy music as I lounge in my yard and it's just good enough that I'm keeping them, but not as good as I had hoped.
It is, as others have said, stereo! That's pretty cool as most wireless speakers are not.
SETUP: If you are connecting it to a "speaker B" setup on your stereo, good luck with finding the cables. Basically the transmitter needs RCA jacks. So you will need a stripped end set of wires ending in a RCA jack. I ended up having to go to Radio Shack to buy separate RCA jacks and had to solder speaker wire to the end. Seriously. I was as surprised as you might be reading this that this sort of cable does not exist. Now if you are plugging it into a jack on the back of your laptop, no problem and it comes with that cord. But to take it from speaker outputs, be aware. Radio Shack does have something like this, but the speaker wire is thin, like the thickness you would find in a cell phone headset (ie: threadlike thinness), so not good enough for this application in my opinion.
Once I had the wiring done, the speaker works as advertised. You turn it on, the transmitter finds it and a blue light comes on, you press the "tune" button on the speaker, and you are set to go. And the good news is that it did not interfere with my wireless subwoofer I use for my home theater.
BATTERIES: I put in some standard non-alkaline batteries in it (6 D cells apiece) and they lasted about an hour. After that the speakers picked up lots of static until I plugged them in. Might try alkaline (as recommended) or might buy a charger. But don't waste your money on standard batteries.
REMOTE: It works but only throws around 10 feet. You must aim it directly at the speaker as you use one remote for both speakers. Wish it threw further but it works.
VERDICT: I would give this product 3 and a half stars. I don't regret buying them, but my expectations were set a bit too high based on the other reviews.
UPDATE A FEW DAYS LATER...... I'm returning these speakers. I listened to them again without the advantage of a glass of wine and they really are "unstable", like the signal is cutting in and out very rapidly - not enough to drop the music, but enough that the music doesn't sound right. I took them indoors and turned off the main speakers and listened to them in the best possible setting and then realized that these just don't perform good enough for anything but perhaps listening to a ball game. I don't understand others who love these speakers. No bass, no highs, a slightly distorted sound, and the unevenness of the signal make for a dismal listening experience. Seriously, the sound is slightly better tonally than an AM radio or a very weak FM station but it's the cutting in and out that's irritating. I am having a hard time explaining but it's like listening to an ultra compressed low quality mp3.
Now I will admit I am baffled by those who are posting "clear" and "great" when describing the sound, so let me say that it's possible that the problem was on my end. I have a wireless sub on the main system, I have wifi throughout the house, I have cell phones, so maybe it was getting interference? The wireless sub worked just fine with the Mutants going so they were not interfering with that, but I just want to be fair and not bash a product. My experience was pretty dismal but perhaps yours will be as good as the others who love this speaker.
Thankfully, returning them is easy so if you decide to try them out make sure you keep the packaging.

Great for our needsSep 23, 2011
By violentta These speakers are great for what we use them for. They are used on our pool deck and work well for all of our backyard activities. We are cursed with a raincloud over our heads and the speakers have been able to withstand rain, wind, rain and more rain! The only downside is the range. Staying within 30 feet line of sight seems best. We love these speakers.
