Stay ClearSep 03, 2010 I bought this night light and my son loved it. We decided to buy four others for gifts but within just a couple of weeks it stopped charging. Since my son loved it we got him another one hoping it would last longer. The new one only worked for a few days so we took it back to the store and got another one that also stopped working. Later we found out that all of the ones we purchased as gifts also stopped working within just a few weeks. When seven lights out of seven lights stop working within just a few weeks it is time to take the product off the market until the problem is fixed. This product would be great if it actually worked.
entertainingSep 02, 2010 I love this product and so does my grandbaby. She loved it a little too much though, and at 18 months managed to push the button into the bottom of the unit. I see no way to disassemble it to repair the now broken button either. But, while it lasted (Dec 2009 to Aug 2010)it was a great resource for entertainment. So, be aware that the button on the bottom can be pushed all the way into the unit by a clever little toddler.
Was nice while it lasted.Aug 18, 2010 My little guy got this for Xmas 2009. We liked being able to pick a new color to set it on each night. However, it suddenly stopped working in July of this year (would no longer charge or turn on, despite cleaning of the contacts on the bottom). Customer service informed me it is only guaranteed for 90 days so I would basically just have to buy another one. Yeah, I don't think so. I'll look for something else that will hopefully last longer than 7 months. My other child has the older, one color model that still works (had about 4 years now), though that one is now starting to flicker. Those were good because you could make it dimmer, while these color changing ones, while neat, are super bright.
Ordered two, both defectiveAug 17, 2010 I really wanted to love this and if it had worked, I would have!
I ordered two of these and BOTH didn't work correctly - I would leave it on the charging base for 24 hours and then the minute I picked it up, it didn't work and then acted like it wasn't charged.
I wished it worked, as this would have been perfect for changing baby.
great idea but temperamental productAug 16, 2010 My son loves it. We bought him one when he moved out of his crib and into a bed in another room. It was a big help in getting him over the fear of an unfamiliar room. As some others have noted, some of the settings are rather bright (green especially), but this works out well, b/c he likes to play in bed before falling asleep and the green setting gives him just enough light. The red setting is quite dim and more suitable for sleeping (although he doesn't have any trouble sleeping through green). We have given several of these as gifts.
However, there are issues with quality/reliability. The charger base stopped working and I had to pay shipping charges to get a replacement from the manufacturer. They actually sent me one that wasn't compatible, but it turned out that the plug was the problem and the replacement fit our base, so problem solved.
The glomate stopped working a short time after that (about a year after purchase). We bought a replacement. Then, the original started working again, so we had two! Then the replacement stopped working for a while before coming back on. Still, every once in a while, one or the other will stop working (the charger will show that it's charging/charged, and sometimes the red light on the bottom will light up, but the glomate itself won't illuminate). I have found that if I just leave it off the charger for a few days, then charge it back up, it will start working again.
So, it's a great idea and your kid will probably love it, but be prepared to fight with it every once in a while and perhaps buy a back-up.
