I really was surprised by this softwareApr 06, 2010

I used to think that if it wasn't expensive then it obviously wasn't as good ... but with Mixcraft I have to take that back! I own Acid 7 and I do like it, however this software just seems more intuitive. I also own Cubase 5, although I don't use it (it just doesn't **feel** right to me .. if that makes sense). And I've run through a demo of Live 4 and 5 ... and I just don't want to wrap my head around that one ... maybe I'm lazy who knows ...
If you intend to do serious professional recordings with pristine mixdowns then I can't help you ... Mixcraft may not be as good in that regard ... but if you're laying down midi tracks with audio files, maybe some loops and putting together some vocals, layering in some VST effects or Instruments ... then this software is honest to goodness as good as, and probably easier than, anything else out there. (and if you're producing professional audio stuff then you're already using Protools anyway).
I've been a faithful Acid user since version 3, and I will probably continue to stubbornly stick with it, but I can tell you that this software is going to definitely start taking up some of my time. For example, one comparison between the two ... if I have a project laid out in Mixcraft and I decide that I want to insert a short midi file that I've saved on my computer it's just a matter of a right-click and choosing the file ... done ... but in Acid it just seems like I have to jump through hoops to insert some midi to it ... this might seem trivial but to me I want a program that's created from a musical perspective, not a programming one ... it's just my pet peeve (and I'm a programmer too ... !)
Oh, one thing negative that I have found with Mixcraft ... in the Notation View midi editor I have crashed the program more than once by apparently clicking too fast when adding/deleting notes ... if they could make this more stable I can honestly say that I would finally drop Acid as my main sequencer of choice...
I really like the way Mixcraft looks and feels. To me this is not about functionality because all of the big names pretty much do the same stuff ... for me this is about feeling at ease in my little home studio and not getting frustrated with memorizing steps and menu options ... and I really hate the idea of buying those learning DVD's just to be able to use my software ... I just want to JAM!

Move over, GarageBand!Mar 15, 2010
By N. B. Kennedy Having graduated to middle school and PCs, my son mourned the loss of his elementary school Macs and GarageBand music-mixing program. Searching for a replacement, he stumbled across Mixcraft 5 and took it out for a spin.
He's had the program only a few days and already I'm astonished at how much he can do with it. He began with the basics, mixing and re-mixing tracks, adding music, rhythym and sound effects to create his own songs. He's also tried the "musical typing," a synthesizer feature in which you create an onscreen piano keyboard, assigning letters to the notes of the scale and playing it with differing tonal qualities. Much of the program's capabilities are beyond his ability now, but I can see him growing into it daily.
I am particularly pleased at how Mixcraft sparks his creativity, not only in music but in technology. He takes the tracks he's made on Mixcraft and uses them as background to videos he creates with the webcam and entertainment package on his laptop. He's also imported tracks to Audacity, where he fiddles with them even more. And, he and his friends got out their Guitar Hero controllers and performed some awesome air guitar stunts to their music! They even made up their own lyrics.
I see from the specs that Mixcraft 5 has a video track, so you can create your own music videos. This is a feature our son will learn more about this summer when he takes a computer music course. I think it will energize him to try out all of the program's features.
When I asked him whether Mixcraft was any different than GarageBand, the only thing he could come up with was that GarageBand shows you an image of each instrument with its associated track. It's a minor thing, and nothing that he misses.
The ease of use extends to downloading the program. We had a glitch at first. The web page had two download buttons; the first one we tried gave us an error message saying there was a newer version of the program. After a few tries, we clicked the other download button and the program downloaded without a problem. Perhaps it is just a temporary glitch as Acoustica only recently updated to version 5. Don't let this possibility put you off. This is a terrific program for the PC that pulled our son out of his GarageBand funk. We wholeheartedly endorse it.

Really great, User FriendlyOct 15, 2010
By The Real Deal This is a great product. Very user friendly and has lots and lots of features. Everything a beginner or intermediate musician, singer, songwriter will need. My only reservation is that the loop library is a bit disappointing for my type of music (roots based, singer songwriter stuff). There is plenty of dance, techno, rap kind of stuff but no much straight forward pop, roots, rock stuff and that's a bit frustrating. Otherwise tho, I am very, very satisfied.

He likes it!Jan 11, 2011
By Doorboard After watching my son mess with his cousin's "Garage Band" software, I knew I had to get that for him. Wrong. It doesn't exist for the non-Mac world. I eventually found this program and purchased it for him. He has been EXTREMELY happy with it and has created many songs. I can't speak to any of the technical aspects of it or whether he has any complaints (I know that isn't very helpful). But for anyone looking for something equal to GarageBand, my son says this is it. Also, the price wasn't bad and it seems to be holding his interest.
The only "issue" we had, and it was very minor, was that after using it for awhile, a message kept popping up that his free trial was over and he needed to buy it. Well, we searched for the registration code (on the box), but couldn't find it. It was right infront of us on the sleeve that the CD came in. Neither of us saw it. But now that he has typed in the information, the program no longer pesters him to register.
I would definitely recommend this program.

The best I have foundAug 04, 2011
By Guitar Hack I am an amateur musician and like to record my own songs on the computer. I have used other programs that are far too complicated to use, even one that say they are intuitive. I bought this based on reviews by others and have found it to be outstandingly easy to use. It is very intuitive. If you buy this you also need to get a computer interface and a decent mic to use it. The sound is excellent and I generally use the pre-sets to improve the sound. I have used a free program called "Audacity" and this program does everything you wish Audacity did and more. I can't express enough how easy it is to use.
The only glitch I found with the product is the tempo function does not seem to work properly so if you are trying to change the tempo of a drum loop to match your other tracks the software's listing of the tempo on the other tracks may not be accurate. I use my I-Phone tempo app to figure it out.
Unlike most other software packages out there you can find many tutorials on how to use this product. I recommend them to get you started. They last 3-5 minutes each and you can watch them and then jump in with both feet. If you are a sound engineer this probably isn't for you but you could make it work just fine. If you are the average guy just trying to lay down some recorded tracks this is the software for you.
