It's a pocket compassAug 10, 2011
By The Maestro Marbles compasses have been around for over a hundred years. I bought a bunch of these recently as graduation gifts for friends (to help them find direction wherever life takes them), as my granddad's WW2 pin-on compass has served me well over the years. The new ones aren't of the same quality as the decades old ones are, but for the price and size, you can't beat them. These compasses point north, take a beating, and look pretty neat on your key chain (note: batteries and steel will affect the direction. Take the compass off the ring before you use it). I only wish they still came in the half-inch size to mount into my .22 rifle stock. Note- These compasses are foreign made, and are plastic encased in a brass shell which you can unscrew. Technically, they aren't brass compasses. That being said, I've been all over this planet, and I've yet to find a compass as small and reliable. If you are looking for a true travel/adventure compass, buy a full-size Suunto or Brunton (or, if you have the military training like me, a true lensatic). If you are looking for a backup to hang on your ski parka or clip to your day pack, DO NOT buy anything else but a Marbles. You WILL NOT find a better compass in this size. Don't waste the $3 on a POS. Spend the extra $12 and get the Marbles. You'll be glad you did, because someday, your life may depend on it. It would be like buying an Ontario knife, when for a few $$ more, you can get the Camillus.

Marble Compass -- Developed a bubbleJan 04, 2012
By cdw I was disappointed with this compass because it developed a bubble after about 1 year of gentle use. It would be nice if a little less effort was put into developing the brass case and a little more effort was spent on developing a quality fluid-filled compass that was more durable. When I first purchased this item, the compass itself "rattled around" in the brass housing until I used a bit of paper behind the compass to wedge it into the case. As another reviewer mentioned, the bubble pretty much ruins the use of the compass. I'm currently looking for a better quality (more durable), small, fluid-filled compass.

Marble pocket compassDec 04, 2011
By JavaJunkie1701 When I first recieved this compass I thought wow what a great buy for the money, but in less than a month of use it developed a bubble and stopped working. Maybe I just got a defective one, but I won't buy another one at any price.
