4Easy to use quick release.Jun 16, 2008
By W. Kendall
I mounted this MKA 21 quick release on my boat for my Power Drive trolling motor because it has a small foot print. It is easy to just put the trolling motor onto or to remove it. The locking pins do slide in kind of tight and I do have to struggle with it to slide it all the way through the mounting base. The directions said to drill out the base if that occurs but I don't want to drill out the holes and make things too sloppy either. Maybe Minn Kota needs to take another look at the design and hole size or the alignment? I still like this mount better than other designs and give it an eight on a scale of 1 to 10.

3Love the mount, hate the handleDec 14, 2009

I have had this quick release mount for about 3 years now, and actually bought an extra plate to mount on my other boat so I can swap the troll motor from one to the other.
The handle with the stainless pins has always been a tight fight, but with a little tugging and pushing I am always able to get it after a few minutes. Unfortunately, today when I put the motor on my boat and started to push the handle through, the plastic handle broke right in the middle. I didn't realize there wasn't metal all the way through the handle until that moment, and because there is a big hole drilled through the middle of the plastic part, there are two thin areas of plastic on top & bottom. This is a weak point, and unfortunately you cannot just buy a replacement handle.
I would have given the mount 5 stars except for this defective design with the handle, and no replacement available for purchase. I can probably fix this myself or jury-rig some sort of replacement, but it's disappointing to say the least.

5Sturdy, works greatOct 21, 2010

I installed this on the front of my Ranger R70. Works great. It's really strong for plastic, and I doubt that it'll ever break.

One thing I had to do was buy a new padlock for it. The hole in the bracket only takes a lock with a 1/4" shank, while most locks are slightly larger (I had lots of padlocks laying around, but none that would fit, and the local store only had one that was suitable).

If you want a quick-release bracket for your Minn Kota, this is the way to go. It eliminates any sharp edges that you get with the aluminum brackets.

5MinnKota trolling motor mountAug 30, 2010
By Bill W.
I bought this along with the new MinnKota trolling motor for a 24' Pontoon boat. Easy on and off! The locking feature is cool too. Recommend it.

4Great, but one glitch! Okay 2 glitches.May 24, 2010
By Thaddeus A. Lewand
The bracket works great. Minn Kota could have improved it by having a little more tolerance in the holes that receive the handle assembly. If they don't line up perfectly, MKota says to drill them out to make them bigger. Also ticked me off that they make you buy an entire assembly when all you need for a 2nd boat is the mounting puck.
I called them about this and got nowhere.
