4My favorite labels - but use pencil, not penOct 10, 2010
By Andrew Sigal
I've been using these labels for a couple years now. I love them. They are durable, easy to write on, and in the 50-pack are downright cheap. (I dont understand why some people sell the 20 pack of short labels for $10, and others sell the 50 pack of longer labels for $6. Wierd.)

I am giving them 4 stars instead of 5 because there is a 1cm round indentation on one side that makes that side hard to write on. I assume it is some relic of the plastic injection process, but it is right in the way of where I want to write, making these labels effectively one-sided. Oh well, they got everything else right.

One note in reply to a prior review - it does seem intuitively obvious to use a sharpie to write on these (or other plant labels.) However, sharpie (and other ink) does not last in the sun. Plain old ordinary pencil (graphite) is basically indelible and never fades in the sun. It really only comes off with an eraser (plus, with an eraser, pencil makes the labels re-usable - go green!) I recommend using #1 pencils ("ex-soft") for easy writing on these labels [most ordinary pencils are #2, which works but not as well.]

5Surprisingly sturdy, no smearingNov 15, 2010
By Jody Biggs
I've got to say, I didn't have high expectations of these plant markers when I ordered them, not because I expected them to be bad, but just because, I mean, c'mon, how exciting can a little plastic marker stick for a plant be? When I got them, though, I was really impressed.

These are literally 1/16th of an inch thick (I know because I stacked up 16 of them and measured that it was an inch), which makes them quite sturdy. They aren't brittle, so if you do try to bend them, they won't snap (they aren't really meant to be bent, though, and I'm not entirely sure why anyone would want to - mainly I'm saying that you won't accidentally snap one in two if you kick it in the garden).

The plastic is white, with a slight texture to it (texture is on both sides). If you write on the labels with a sharpie or similar, the writing is clear, and doesn't smear - seems instantly dry. There is a small hole punched near the "pointy" end of the labels, so if you wanted to poke a wire tie or similar through and loop it around a branch or small trunk for use as a hanging tag, these should work well. The pointy end is rounded off at the point. You won't scratch yourself or your plants with it, unless you're actively working at causing some damage.

For seedlings, I cut them in half at an angle (so that I have a pointy end to stick in on both halves, not just the half that would end up with the original pointy end), because I wanted to be able to use these with seedlings in a covered tray. No problems doing this with a standard pair of scissors, and still plenty of space to write enough to let me know what is what.

5Great to use over and overApr 03, 2011
By Kris
The sticks are slightly rough on one side so they are easy to write in with a permanent marker. I don't know if the plant names have staying power yet, but these thick, durable plastic sticks can be used over and over with a good wash in bleach and dish detergent.

Nice and thick. Will last a while. Wish there were 10" lengths available. Takes marker well but pencil lasts better. Happy Gardening!!

5Awesome!Oct 03, 2009
By Deborah K. Dobbins "~Triple D~"
I grow many varieties of vining plants and morning glories. These sticks are made of a durable plastic. I would say about 2-3 times thicker than the cheap ones that come with store bought plants. They are easy to write on withe a permanent marker of any color choice. I highly recommend these to anyone who is an any gardner to help keep track of your seedlings.
