Very simple baby monitor that does the jobFeb 23, 2011
By Terry
"TCinSATX"
This baby monitor is a basic model that works very well. It allows you to monitor sound in your baby's room - no video and no two way communication. However, if that is what you need, this set have a few nice features that make it stand out as a great value.
In the box are two small, but sturdy, monitors and two a/c adapters. One unit goes in the baby's room and the other is the parent's unit. Both of them can be battery operated. I like that the batteries (3 AAA batteries for each unit, not included) install via a door that opens and closes with a screw. On units that don't have a screw closure, the batteries invariably pop out if the unit is dropped. Even though I will likely use the a/c adapters most of the time, the battery option is nice.
Another nice feature is that there is a belt clip on each unit that also doubles as a wall-mount. Recently there have been some tragic infant deaths when babies got tangled up in the a/c adapter cord of their monitors (NOT this brand). Installing a nail or screw on a wall far out of baby's reach to wall mount the monitor is a good safety measure when using the a/c adapter. This monitor is quite sensitive so you can mount the monitor on an opposite wall without worry that it will miss some of baby's sounds.
There is an LED display on both units. On the baby's unit, there is just one light which visually tells you the unit is on. The on/off button is on the top of the unit. Both units have a switch to select between two different channels which allow you to choose a different channel if you experience interference from household appliances.
The parent's unit has a four LED display as well as a volume control dial on the top of the unit. The LEDs give you a visual notification, in addition to the sounds coming out of the speaker, that your child is making sound and how loud the sound is. Just moving in their sleep with result in only one LED being lit. Loud crying will light up all four LEDs. The lights are a convenience so that parents can turn the volume down low and still have an instant visual of how loud the sound is coming from baby's room.
The sound quality is excellent and the box says there is a 300 ft. range. I didn't measure, but I have a very large house and got great reception from one end of the house to the other, even when one unit was downstairs and the other upstairs.
As a side note, a "baby" monitor is invaluable for caregivers of elderly or sick patients. I used one when my mother was very ill and it allowed me to sleep soundly knowing that if she needed me, the monitor would wake me instantly. I considered it the most helpful piece of equipment I used during that time.
I think that this unit is an excellent value if you are looking for a basic monitor without video.

Very basic, analog audio baby monitor with vox. Not a great value.Apr 03, 2011

After playing around with the Levana Wireless Audio Baby Monitor with Sound Indicator LEDs (LV-TW100) I have it's not going to be a monitor that I keep using and here's why:
The Bad 1. Analog 400Mhz so it's easy for anyone with a scanner to listen in 2. Although it has vox (voice operated switch which means that the transmitter only turns on with sounds of a certain loudness) it's not adjustable. So no listening to baby's breathing etc. Only fairly loud sounds will activate the transmitter. This may be a good thing for some folks but not for me since I want to listen in on whatever is happening.
The Good 1. Very small and portable 2. Comes with AC Adapters for transmitter and receiver but these are 120v only so may not be appropriate for travelling to some countries 3. Decent Range. Should be fine in most wood-frame North American houses
At $30 it's not a bargain by any means and you can probably get a better analog monitor like the Safety 1st Glow And Grow Baby Monitor, White for about $5 less.

Wireless Audio Baby MonitorMay 20, 2011
By Maria Waltner First off, this isn't a high-quality device that you'll want to use as your primary monitoring system for your very young infants. The price is right to use it for older toddlers at naptime, the sick or disabled or the elderly. It's one-way walkie capability makes it very helpful for those situations where the caregiver needs to be moving from room to room (using the belt clip-on) and still monitor the child / patient.
I think for what it does for the price makes it a perfectly fine and useful tool for the home.

So annoying voice activation noisesFeb 16, 2012
By Momma B OVERALL: Fine as a travel monitor or occasional back up monitor, but don't make this your primary baby monitor.
Cons: -The monitor is noise activated, so the sound only comes on when it has a certain loudness of noise level (which is not a con, but keep reading as to why this is listed under cons). When it DOES activate, you hear an extremely loud annoying staticky click EVERY SINGLE time the voice activation comes on and off. If you were using the parent unit in your bedroom at night while sleeping, you would get ZERO sleep because every time there was a peep from your baby's room (including the fan I keep in there to prevent SIDS by circulating air), you hear a very very loud staticky click as the sound activates. It is useful to hear your baby, yes; that's the point of a monitor, but having to hear a big feedbacky noise before and after every peep is very distracting. I am neutral on sound activation in monitors, but this is incredibly annoying and jarring and headache-inducing to hear a loud click every time the Vox comes on and off. Just activate, don't create a big annoying noise every time the vox-activation comes on and off! I would 100% NOT be able to use this in my bedroom at night. My husband teleworks sometimes and he literally could not work in the same room as the parent unit because the vox-activation clicks were so annoying and loud (my baby talks herself to sleep, so interrupting the sweet sounds of her babbles were constant sporadic clicks and static as the activation came on and off between her coos). The baby's actual noise level was not distracting; the montior's clicks and feedback were. -the LED lights don't seem to have a lot of range (meaning when my baby is quiet vs. very loud the same number of lights seem to light up). It doesn't really seem to distinguish in the number of lights how loud she actually is (i.e. her quietly talking vs her screaming seems to all light up every LED light), so not very useful if you have the sound off to know whether she's just babbling to herself or she's screaming in distress. -Should cost about $15 for the quality and complexity of it (which is very little) -no out of range indicator so you have no idea if you are far away if your baby is just quiet or the monitor is too far away to hear her -takes a second or two for the sound activation to kick in once baby starts making noise. Can be a big deal if your baby is choking/etc... or a situation when every second counts.
PROS: -not super expensive (but definitely could be cheaper than $30 for the quality that it is) -has a set of lights in case you want to turn the sound down so you can see if she is making noise -Easy to use and set up -When your baby is making loud enough noise, the sound activation kicks in and you can hear your baby (which is the point of a monitor). -Parent unit has volume control so you can turn it down if your baby is yelling but you know she's fine, or turn it up if you want to hear whether your baby is babbling quietly vs. upset (I actually find the volume control on it more adjustable than the one on my big fancy permanent baby monitor that doesn't allow me to hear her quiet noises enough) -can be plugged in or use battery power (but you have to use a screwdriver to get the battery in and out and the screw is hidden between pieces of plastic, so kind of a pain to use the batteries and get them in and out) -I already have a very fancy angel care sids monitor, so I don't use this as my primary monitor. Just for when I travel since the angelcare is a pain to uninstall and re-locate for travel or play dates. This one allows me to hear my baby (albeit with annoying constant voice-activation feedback and clicking every time she makes noise) and her Snuza Halo travel SIDS alarm when we travel, and transport the monitor easily, so it works. -no loud beeps from an out of range indicator frustrating you when you are just 15 feet away from your baby

Didn't work at allOct 07, 2011
By Kreece I have never left a review for any product before, but this monitor did not work at all. I plugged in both parts and they were about 20 feet apart, but it only worked for about 10 minutes. After that, the light was on, but when my baby cried I could not hear anything. I returned this right away.
