Amazing Technology applied with class and smartsApr 02, 2009
By J. Goodson LX5 Moonflower is an excellent light. I also have its big brother the J-Five by Chauvet. These are both LED technology and draw very little current. They also run absolutely cool. I have had these both running for ten to twelve hours at a time with no heat buildup whatsoever. No exaggeration, these lights have run for hours and hours. All our previous lighting systems had very limiting duty cycles. These have no duty cycle. Really. They go and go and go. The LX5 will add a nice mood to a small room (say 15 by 25 for my example). If you want a real busy rock show, the Chauvet J-Five is where you need to step up to. These lights are "dumb" meaning they have their own onboard light show or they will sense music and perform to the music (do not use a controller and are stand alone). They have sensitivity knobs to adjust the onboard mic to the level of the music you are playing. I have to tell you, without exception, these lights hypnotize people. Crank up some music, turn the house lights down and turn on these lights and WOW! It doesn't matter what age music style, anything. People will stop in their tracks and watch these lights. Performing in front of them is the complete opposite. They don't blind you, yet they provide excitement, illumination and excellent mood. I am gushing perhaps, but coming from hot, high current, dangerous old tech lighting, these are not even on the same planet. In a nutshell, Excellent lights, I am going to buy more of them and also add controllable LED lights. Purchase these lights and be amazed. Again, if you want mood and have a small room the LX5. If you want a rock show the J-Five, both by Chauvet.

Fantastic product at reasonable priceSep 17, 2009
By J.J. I purchased this for my daughter's 5th birthday party -- a disco dance party. The kids loved how the floor lit up with the cool, bright dots. The light never got too hot so we could keep it on the whole time. It really contributed to the mood of the party. Easy to set up -- you just plug it in. I placed it on our mantel and pointed it toward the floor. I think the higher up you place the light, the more floor space the lights will cover. I would definitely recommend it without hesitation.

Too bad disco is deadJun 27, 2011

I don't miss the disco clothes, but the lights were WAY cool!:) This is a really nice music light. No one says much about how it works in any of the reviews I've seen, so I'll try to give you an idea here: Try to picture this - what it does is essentially project a large stop-sign shaped matrix of circular LED lights in a pattern. So if you are trying to figure out how much of your room, wall or whatever this light will cover, an approximate rule of thumb is the diameter of the stop sign projected is roughly equal to the distance of the light from the wall you are projecting on to. In other words, if your room is 12 feet long, you will get a 12 foot diameter roughly stop-sign/circle projected on the opposite wall if you place it at one end of the room. If your room is 50 feet long, it will be 50 feet in diameter, etc. It performs AMAZINGLY well in a totally dark room. The stop sign/circle shape it projects consists of 57 smaller circular LED lights, 19 each in 3 colors - red, blue and green. They form various patterns and appear to DANCE to the music if you set the switch to sound activated. Sometimes it looks like its spinning, sometimes they blink in unison, it definitely keeps you interested. The brightness of the image projected is a function of both the darkness of the room and the distance of the light from the wall you project on to. The farther away you go, the larger the image gets and hence the apparent brightness of any one spot decreases. I will say that at a distance of 12 feet in a totally dark room, i almost feel myself wanting sunglasses so the brightness is most adequate for my purposes. Another thing, in case you are wondering - this light does not have to be ceiling mounted. In fact, what I did with mine was attach it to a roughly 3 foot high BOSE speaker stand in an upside down position by screwing the hanging bolt into the stand. This way I can just carry the stand to any spot or room i want it in, much more versatile than if i bolt it to one fixed spot. You can angle the light up or down so as to get more dots on the floor or ceiling rather than the opposite wall if you so like. I could even see this light working fairly well placed on a shelf at roughly 4 feet off the ground, just be sure to leave room around it for ventilation. It does not get overly hot, although it definitely does generate some heat, although bear in mind that my testing ground was Southern Nevada in June, where even ice cream cones generate some heat. It uses very little electricity, rated at 8 watts, and unfortunately comes with an incredibly short cord. You will need an extension cord unless your socket is less than 2 feet away. Why they made the cord so short I cannot imagine. Definitely a cool toy anyone who enjoys music will thoroughly appreciate. If it stands the test of time it was worth every penny.
UPDATE 7/22/2011: After only 3 hours of use (on 3 separate 1 hour occasions, not even all in a row) one quarter of my blue lights no longer light. I am guessing one LED went bad, although the manual claims the lamps are rated for 100,000 hours, i guess mine died 99,997 hours early:) Chauvet customer service took a few days to respond to my email and phone call, but they did finally volunteer to send a brand new light free of charge. Time will tell on this one... nice to look at, but I have to wonder how long until the other LEDs die as well.

AWESOME light!!!Dec 10, 2009
By Rebeca A. Collazo This light is so much better than I expected. The lights are so bright and colorful. I bought it for my son's birthday party and we had a blast. The sound sensor works well and the lights keep cool. The only drawback is the very short power cord. This light can turn any ordinary room into a club instantly!
