WOW A video monitor that actually works!Sep 27, 2007
By Jessica G. Raia We have gone through about 5 video monitors in the past 2 years and 3 months. Our daughter has special needs and it's very important we see her and her equipment (numbers) on screen. A lot of the ones that seemed good had too small of a screen and all of the previous monitors with the bigger screens (summer infant & safety 1st) have had poor reception from day 1 and I live in a small ranch so distance is NOT an issue. After a while they would fuzz or have lines in the screen. This screen is AMAZING compared to the previous monitors. When we saw this product we ordered it right away, ordered the 20 dollar 3 year warranty too which was a great deal from J&R through Amazon. Right away we noticed the difference in quality from our previous ones. I am glad it also comes with the option for another camera for my future child. Reception has been wonderful this far, picture is clear, sound is great... etc... we have wireless internet and many phones in our house and it's still great. The monitor is so much less bulky and very nice looking.
A++++ to this video monitor. It's about time baby monitor technology started stepping up... and finally they are in the right direction!

Crashed After Take-OffJan 16, 2008
By Susan T. Bunch Having 3 boys, I've burned through a lot of audio monitors, so I anticipate issues with feedback and interference. I bought this monitor because it seemed to offer the most hope for reducing interference and static and provide a clear image. Our 11 year old has "issues" sleeping at night so we installed this monitor about a month ago to be alerted when he wakes up and starts playing or reading intsetad of going back to bed. (He clearly takes after mom). Initial installation was a breeze and we mounted the camera on the wall but it was virtually impossible to find a good reception point for the monitor receiving unit in our bedroom. Although our room is some 40-50 feet from his room, cheaper audio monitors never gave us this problem. When we finally we were able to get a viewable (but always very grainy) signal, we had to contend with constant sputtering noise and feedback all night. However, otherwise it worked "okay" for the first few weeks. However, after approx 3 weeks it became harder and harder to position it for a decent signal and minimal noise. About a week ago, the monitor started flashing on and off every 5-7 seconds - giving our supposed haven of rest a disco/strobe light atmosphere. The monitor then died altogether, although we had to turn it off anyway to get some sleep. I am going to try to return it but will see how the manufacturer responds, since it is outside of the seller's (J&R) 30-day warranty. That having been said, I will probably contact J&R anyway, becaused I've bought many products through its web site and have enjoyed good customer service ...I will try to remember to update this review if and when someone comes through with a replacement. That, of course, also depends on whether I can get any decent sleep now)

Nice picture and sound... but terrible interferenceMar 29, 2008
By L. Rockefeller I have had this monitor for about 6 months now. At first I was thrilled with it. The screen is a great size and the picture, during the day, is very clear. The night vision is OK, but can't be dimmed like other models I've had in the past. So it keeps our room brightly lit all night unless we turn off the picture all together (which you can do and still have the sound on). However, about a month after purchasing it, it started to get very finicky. The picture is still OK, but there is lots of crackling and buzzing. Then if you even get it in the same room with a portable phone or any other electrical source (even an outlet) it just flashes, crackles loudly and flickers on and off. Very annoying. It got to the point where we cannot have it next to our bed at night. The only place where we can find a spot with limited interference is in the hallway outside our room. Kind of defeats the purpose... at that point, the monitor is closer to the baby than it is to us.
Yesterday, the monitor just crackled and died. Sound still works, but the picture is dead. I'm going back to our first monitor that lasted about 18 months and was great (safety 1st, sight and sound monitor) It wasn't in color, but this monitor only shows color in bright sunlight. At night, it's all black and white anyway.
Also... the blue power lights and a large 1/2" light around the brightness control on the monitor, as well as the power lights on the camera are so bright, they need to be covered with electrical tape... and even then, the blue light creeps out. Way too bright and distracting to a baby (or Mom and Dad) trying to sleep!
I would not recommend this monitor. Not worth the money or the aggravation.

LOVE this monitor!Jan 05, 2008
By Audiophile I cannot say enough about how much we love this monitor. We had the Bebe Sounds Angelcare Movement Sensor sound monitor for the first year of our daughter's life because we wanted to monitor her breathing during the time she'd be threatened most by SIDS. We liked that monitor, but interference with our cell phones was a pretty big problem. I was worried about this video monitor because it was a big expense to risk it not working due to interference, but the reviews were strong and the screen was large enough for grandparents who might be baby sitting to see. We have been thrilled. There is no interference with this monitor (we have one cordless phone, two iPhones, and two wifi stations). Seeing what our daughter is doing (vs. guessing if she is fussing to get us to come into the room or actually has her leg stuck between the rails in the crib) is so nice. It helps us all be consistent with naps and night time sleeping. No caregiver will go in after agonizing over what our daughter is doing. As a result she doesn't expect us to come in if she's fussing because she tossed her lovey out of the crib. Our only joke is that "smell-o-vision" would be nice in case a poopy diaper might be getting in the way of going down for a nap. And as a small real criticism, we think its funny that the manual says the camera has batteries "in case of a power failure", but the monitor/receiver can only be plugged in. What?!? :) Otherwise, we wish there was a SIDS combo video monitor like this one when our daughter was a newborn. It would have saved us a lot of angst.

Read the reviews before you buy!Feb 24, 2008

"Mom of 2"
I received this monitor as a gift for my baby shower and I was so excited, however after setting up the monitor I was disapointed and I'm returning it for another flat screen monitor on the market. We had two big problems with the monitor - first there are two lights on the camera and it's like having an airplane runway in our baby's bedroom. It was so bright that my baby just stared at it and wouldn't fall asleep. Finally I put some tape over it and that kind of fixed the problem. Then, on the first night, the monitor kept turning off and on, I have no idea why. I read that other people have had the same problem. My advice - read the reviews before you buy it!! I wish it worked out better!
