Buck PakLite Skinner is a handy knifeAug 09, 2010
By DanC_13 I purchased the Buck PakLite Skinner Knife to have a fixed blade knife with me while backpacking. You get a lot of utility use out of this knife for it's size and weight. The blade length is adequate for almost all camp chores. The handle is not suited for a lot of heavy use as it does not have a grip installed. For small jobs it works well.
If I were going to improve this knife, I would offer a sheath that would allow it to be worn as a neck knife. The sheath that comes with it cannot be easily setup to connect to a backpack harness or hung from a necklace.
Overall, a handy little knife that I would recommend to someone who is concerned with weight and needs the utility of a fixed blade knife.
Thanks.

Great KnifeJul 19, 2011
By lilloquacious I plan to use this for camping and hunting (squirrel, deer, turkey, etc.)
This came sharp out of the box, and was all the things it was supposed to be. Light, Buck quality, and made in the USA. I was pleasantly surprised with the sheath quality after reading other reviews. The sheath isn't overly nice, but the hard plastic insert gives it a rigidity and strength I wasn't expecting. Like others have done, I will probably wrap the handle in cord, if nothing else to have an extra bit of rope with me when I am hiking or camping. I bought this along with the PakLite Caper. Both are great products I would recommend to others.
This knife is 420HC steel. I have read quite a bit over the last year about knives and steel qualities. Some steel elitists act like certain common steels are beneath them. 420HC has been skinning deer, cutting rope, and surviving the outdoors for over a century. It may not be as hard or have the "edge retention" of other steels, but it is a good quality steel that is affordable, easily sharpened and time tested.

Buck Pak-Lite knife.....Nov 17, 2011
By Mark Rodgers After reading numerous (mostly) positive reviews, I ordered one of these as a Chistmas gift for my brother. The majority of issues others had with the knife were about the sheath, not the knife. Though the sheath could be improved, it's better than I expected ( I looked at one at wal-Mart,first)it should be fine for something meant largely as a back-up type tool. The blade was very sharp, in fact I noticed I was bleeding while I was wrapping paracord around the handle, but never felt the cut !! Made in the USA from a legendary old company, lifetime guarantee, and under $20,delivered..... what's not to love !!!!

PakLiteSep 01, 2011
By ncamo I picked this up for the heck of it a few months ago and have used it mostly as an EDC knife. Granted, it doesn't have a pocket clip or anything, but it fits well in the pocket. I made my own sheath for it so that probably helps too because the Buck sheath looks like it might be a bit bigger than necessary. So, it does a good job and is super lightweight, and you can't really ask for much more under $20. Pick it up, it's a great addition to the collection.
