Do Not Buy! - production defect as of Oct 8,2009.
I ordered this hotplate due to some good reviews in another website.
This product had a deep scratch on the cooking surface. The glass cut the person opening it. I returned it for replacement. Provantage is very fast and I got the replacement quickly. Unfortunately the replacement also has a deep scratch on the glass surface. There is nothing wrong with the box and plastic bag. This indicates that the product was damaged before being packaged. The packer must be blind. I'm going to stay away from Avanti products.

Better faster cookware for you all. This is a great breakthrough in cooking. BUT THROW THE FREE ALUMINUM POT AWAY, that you get with the unit. No aluminum should be used in cooking, VERY TOXIC (the French & Chinese are trying to kill you) just kidding! The Avanti IHP 1501 is better than sliced bread. You now have control over the temperature and time while cooking. You should all know everything over 115° will kill off enzymes in food. Enzymes are what is necessary for complete and proper digestion to occur. This is why vegans have a heads-up on life, but raw is better and juicing the way to go. However as a recovering carnivore I would recommend this unit it comes with manufacture presets of 160/230/290/340/400° this is fine but a temp of 105 would be even better because of the above reason. Through the use of inductive cooking makes this puppy cook fast. Read about inductive cooking yourself because it is safe but be sure you pay intention to what you are cooking in. You can boil water in 2 to 4 minutes based on volume. For folks like myself with a short attention span it has a timer with auto turn off, a must for seniors who burn pots. With control of time and temperature you can wip-up your most tantalizing culinary delight in record time and dump that microwave it is alternating the molecular structure of food. Research how the Nazi heated food for the troops and why it was banned. Also try growing something in water that has been in the microwave.
With this unit you can cook on it and put a paper towel under it and not burn it (unless you are a liberal). Should not be tried by the person who wrote the previous review, just toooo stupid. Anyway AMAZON is a great company and is great at shipping and returns. I shop there as much as possible because of this and they often have the best prices and I give them a HOO-RA for dealing with the public so mercifully. Back to the Avanti IHP 1501. My father burned so may of my pots I had to find another way. I got him one of these and after some repeated instructions he did not burn the house down and I could let him cook his own food. You got to be there to appreciate that one. People who understand the importance of temperatures in cooking will appreciate this. For those of you who will try the no flame feature on your children's hands PLEASE DON'T write me. For those liberals and radical vegans who voted for Obama try it on yourself first. Oh did I tell you it also tell you that it saves you money in food preparation, gas vs electrical heating and a whole lot of time at the stove. Get informed look it up yourself! Oh and grammar and punctuation women (retired school Nazi) who are inclined to edit this copy and not laugh. Please do not write, I am out of school and not going back and don't care any more.
