I happened to find this food processor on sale at Target. I have owned only 3 food processors in the 18 years of my marriage, this one being my third. The first was a hand-me-down, a Cuisinart that was probably from the 1980's. I didn't use it daily because I found it not very reliable. Things would get caught in the blade when chopping, or stuff would leak over the middle part below the bowl, or cheese would cause the shredder appliance to stop all together, and it was hard to clean. The second one was a cheap loss-leader Black Friday buy that wasn't even worth the $20 I paid for it. So, I was accustomed to not even using a food processor for everyday cooking when I bought this Hamilton Beach processor. Several things made me buy it: the sale price ($39), the Hamilton Beach brand (my mother used this brand for mixers when I was growing up in the '60's,) and the fact that it had a simple, not-too-complicated interface. (I think too many features leads to repair needs.) Well, I could not be more pleased with my purchase. First of all, it has an easy to store design, with all three extras (center chopping blade, chute pusher, shredder appliance) fitting neatly into the processor body and lid. One thing I failed to notice when I bought it but now consider a HUGE plus is that the center chopping blade body is quite high, so this means that you can process quite a lot of stuff without having it leak out of the bowl in the center. Also, this machine is FAST. This means that when I use the top shredder/slicer, it doesn't come to a halt with stuff jamming under the lid, like the old Cuisinart did. Of course, the speed of this machine may be typical of modern food processors, but after looking at the prices of others, this one can't be beat. I like the fact that this one has two speed options: on and pulse. Simple! Finally, clean up is real easy. There is only one little crevice at the top of the lid where I need to take a knife to dislodge stuff. The old Cuisinart had several deep crevices that were hard to clean. I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. This machine has cut my food prep time to almost nothing. I am glad that Target had this machine on sale that day. As I said, serendipity!

This past summer I bought the Hamilton Beach 10-Cup Food Processor for making home made salsa. I make it in very large batches, almost one gallon per batch, giving away some of it to friends or family. I like that the switch is on/off/pulse only, it works so quickly that I wouldn't want to set it to running and then walk away from it, only to find that my chopped onions or bell peppers are now liquefied- I only use it in pulse mode. The motor is very powerful and the chopping blade very aggressive; I have not had it bog down at all even when chopping onion and other dense vegetables. A friend bought the same machine on my recommendation and he's been very happy with it as well.

We got this yesterday and in that short time, we have used it for minced parsley for paella (better than anything I ever did), sliced dandelion greens for a lentil salad (again, beats me), all the components for a szechuan hot garlic sauce, the shredded carrots and chopped onions and lettuce for a large batch of potstickers - everything worked like a charm. I have made large batches of pesto in the past to freeze but it has been painful. I foresee a much happier basil harvest and many more vegetables in our future. Lovely machine.

I'm very disappointed with this product. When it worked, it was great, I used it to make pizza dough, shred carrots, chop nuts, and it did it all quickly and with no problems, but all of a sudden it just died. I had purchased it on sale at Target, used it a few times and it just quit. I returned it and got a new one, used it maybe twice and the same thing happened!
I'll be looking for a new food processor... By another manufacturer for sure.

When using the slicing/shreading disk, food gets between the motor shaft and the bowl. This after only 2 little carrots. There is a 3/4 inch gap between the disk and the top of the central shaft opening in the bowl. There is 3/8" gap all the way around the motor shaft. (between motor shaft and bowl).
The S chopping blade does not have this problem because the plastic cone that holds the blades cover the gap.
All they would have needed was to include another cheap plastic cone without any blades attached to cover the hole when the slicin/shreading disk is in use. If I wanted to, I could just buy another chopping blade and cut the blades off the plastic cone, but why should I bother to fix a poor design?
