| | | | Skateboarding | Home » » » Fgx Battle Ring - Cold Steel | | | | | | | Description: | | Black as a moonless night and silent as the grave…these are the qualities that make up our new lightweight Nightshade™ series. Most are detailed reproductions of existing Cold Steel favorites and some are new designs representing the newest trends in high-tech, covert construction. Made from Grivory™- the latest in fiberglass reinforced plastic, and stronger than even the super tough Zytel® we have used in earlier models- they are UV and heat stabilized, making them impervious to the elements. One of the most unique features of these knives is their handles. They are made from deeply checkered Kraton that has been molded directly to the blade tangs. The use of Kraton in knife handles is a Cold Steel innovation that dates back to the early 1980's. It has been readily copied by most of our competitors because it offers a superior, slightly tacky gripping surface that is unaffected by heat, cold, or moisture. It never rusts, warps, cracks or splits even in the most extreme environments. Our FGX Battle Ring is distinguished by a short, broad, blade with a ferociously efficient point that resembles a shark's tooth. Yet, it's the handle and ring that are perhaps its most appealing features. They've been precisely shaped and contoured to comfortable accommodate most hands, providing a perch to facilitate different grip options. | | | Features: | |

Great knife design for a plastic knifeJan 20, 2012
By K. Ferriman The first thing to say here is that this is not a knife. It is plastic, so it will not cut like steel. You don't expect to cut steak with a plastic knife the same as you would with a metal knife, so keep that is mind if you are thinking about buying one of these.
That said, this is a sharp plastic knife. I wanted to check out Cold Steel's Night Shade series and after watching a few YouTube reviews, along with reading up here on Amazon, I though this one would be the best buy. I was not disappointed.
It is VERY light. It has a good grip, easy to maneuver in your hand. I easily ripped up the cardboard box it came in, by both piercing and slashing it. The knife stabs very well, and it slashed much better than I thought it would. I am very impressed with this plastic knife and plan to buy more of them.
It can be easily hidden, without worrying too much about the kids finding it. They can handle the "blade" without getting cut. It is great for using as a practice knife too, and it will do more damage that Cold Steel's rubber trainers.
There were a few cons that took a star away. The first was the metal ring attached. There was not real point to this. It made using the ring on the knife harder to use and was a pain to get off.
The one I got did have a few dents in it, but not enough to send back. The tip was bent a little, but after cutting up the box, it was back in shape looking great.
If you are wanting to hang this up as decoration, it looks cheap, in my opinion.
The grip is as good as you would expect for the price. I will likely put some griping tape on mine.
The design is great, and I would love to see an all metal version of this knife, but as plastic it is really just good for training and/or easily stashed defensive weapon (as it is advertised to be).

fgx battle ring - solid self defense weaponMay 11, 2011
By zk2149 i own several of the cold steel nightshade series and this is by far the most sturdy of them all. it feels solid in the hand and the tip is pointy but not as fragile as some of the other plastic knives. it is a good self defense weapon and is easy to stash for emergency use. (i keep mine in the shower) :)
Great all around "tool"Sep 27, 2011
By OutONoWhere Anything Cold Steel is gonna be quality (so far). The FGX line of tools are no exception. Even being a "polymer" type material, these will still cut through even small branches. They will dull easy so don't be too rough on them. Heck, for the price they make a great wall decoration.
