"MomofTwo" is right- this bird is so beautiful that I easily passed over the bird that I intended to purchase. We bought our first Audubon bird seven years ago, and that bird is still working- they are that great. I love the fact that they offer this female cardinal...we have her male counterpart as well, and my daughter is happy to have both. These birds definitely foster love of birds and birdwatching in general. We see our set of cardinals almost everyday, so owning these two cardinals brings even more joy to our home, and encourages great bird conversations. My daughter even brings her birds outside and plays them in order to entice birds to her location (this does not seem to work, but we will try again). Prices for these birds are great here on Amazon. At nature centers they are a bit more; at thrift shops near nature centers, they are very inexpensive. Included tag on bird has some general female cardinal facts, migration patterns map, states when and where the song was recorded, and even the song type. Go ahead- "tweet" yourself or someone loved with this gal.

I ordered the male cardinal, which I thought would be the preferred toy of my children. However the picture of the female cardinal does not do it justice, it is actually very beautiful with rich colors. Fits in the palm of your hand, makes a sweet call that does sound like the cardinals in my yard, is very soft and plush. Also fits nicely in a christmas stocking.

I got my wife one of these (and the male bird from the same collection). Whether or not it is actually the most adorable thing ever depends on how one feels about songbirds, but I can attest that they are also an excellent education toy if you are interested in learning to identify birds by sight or by their song.
