They are long for a reason...Nov 25, 2010
By D. Jacobs I don't understand these reviews complaining about the length/balance. First, right in the description of the stick on this very page it says: "Unlike rattan, it resists mildew, and won't dry out, warp, crack splinter or shrink, and with the use of a saw, it can easily be modified to any length."
Most interested in practicing escrima wouldn't just buy plastic sticks without researching it. Thankfully, Cold Steel says the same thing on their website ([...]) "Unlike rattan, it resists mildew, and won't dry out, warp, crack splinter or shrink, and with the use of a saw, it can easily be modified to any length." Just in case folks can't read so well, their video (YouTube embedded on the page) has the orator reading the exact same line. Lastly, if one hasn't read the description of what they bought, nor done any research on an admittedly-niche product, one can always fall back on common sense: if the stick is too long, simply stick it in a vice and cut the stinking thing.
For anyone contemplating buying these sticks: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Even after being cut to size, they are nicely weighted. You may find your speed increasing if you train with the Cold Steel but display with lighter rattan or other wood sticks. After years of practice, they look as new (despite thousands of very hard hits). Your sparring partners will want them after going a few rounds with you.
Recommend buying some sports wrap if your hands get sweaty after long training sessions.

Balance Feels OffMar 22, 2009

The sticks themselves do indeed seem to be unbreakable. They are black composite and compared to rattan sticks strike me as very durable. That being said they are a little heavy, which is ok except that the balance feels off. I find myself having to choke up on the stick to find a good center of gravity. I am an escrima and jujitsu practitioner and I use sticks regularly in my workouts. I was very excited about this product but now I am on the fence. I have only had them for a couple of weeks and I am trying to get used to them. I can't say they are bad, but I also can't say they are great. Hope this helps

Great stickMar 15, 2011
By Douglas Wells I purchased one to test it out, I love it so much I bought 3 more (1 more for me and 2 for my girlfriend). I got sick of breaking sticks, after breaking a few hardwood ones I tried this one and I'm very happy with it!
I highly recommend it. Though it will tire you out more quickly. But more training fixes that :)

SuperbJan 26, 2011
By Caesar Theron Christian Longer, heavier, and slightly slicker then hardwood or rattan sticks, which make them a little harder to hang on to. However I see this as a plus as it greatly improves your grip rapidly. Nearly indestructible, the only damage I have been able to inflict upon them is when I hit the corner of a brick wall as hard as I could and there was a small dent.
Now for those ding-dongs that can't read. It is noted that they are made of polypropylene not wood or rattan! They can also be cut to any size as the description and common sense say.
I'm a little confused by the first(I think) comment about them not having good balance. All sticks are balanced the same if they are equal thickness all the way through. Either the guy doesn't know much about stick fighting or the sticks are just too heavy for them

My favorite Escrima sticksJan 26, 2010

I own a dozen of these sticks by Cold Steel and they get a lot of action. I prefer them above my rattan or hardwood sticks. I haven't even come close to breaking one of these yet. Easy to cut to your preferred length. They are a little heavier than rattan which I like for training. All my students use these too.
