Top Tier Product Once You Get the HangJan 18, 2005

I Agree with "Great Prints", PictureMate produces top quality prints at about half the price of its competitors. Look at the price of the refill packs for the competition and pay attention to the number of prints per box, you will find that they cost between 50 and 60 cents per prints. That is where your true cost, and true savings accrue. PictureMate is 29 cents per print. The quality, as always from Epson is Outstanding. One thing that I noticed is that the default setting causes a photo to print in 8 to 9 minutes. If you go into the Print Settings and uncheck the "Enhance Fine Details" Checkbox, the PictureMate will produce a fantastic, beautiful, and durable print in about 2 to 3 minutes, which is acceptable.
In response to another reviewer about selecting prints, I agree that it is not easy to select prints when printing from card, I either remember the number or you can use most cameras to mark images for printing in camera. I too print from computer and this is definitely the way to go.

Great Lab Quality Prints At HomeDec 17, 2004
By Ronald A. Sussman I am a semi-pro photographer and was looking for an easy way to get proof images and I found it with the Epson Picturemate. The prints cost roughly the same as from my local lab, about 29 cents each, and the quality is sharper and better. You can connect it directly to your computer or print straight from a variety of media cards. The only down side is there is no way to monitor and pick which image you want off the card without first printing a contact sheet.
Since I print from my computer this is really not a problem. The printer is small and portable. Epson claims the prints will last 100 years or more.

WARNING! Not for PictureMate Pal, Snap, or FlashMay 09, 2007

This print pack MAY NOT BE COMPATIBLE with the PictureMate 200 series printers. If you have a PictureMate Pal, Snap, or Flash printer, you should order EITHER T5846 for 150 glossy prints OR the T5845-M for 100 matte prints.
If the box does not specifically say that it is for PictureMate Series 200 printers (Pal, Snap, and Flash) such as the T5846 or T5845-M packs - DON'T BUY IT! You will end up with the wrong size cartridge. T5570, T5570-M, and "270" cartridges are not compatible with the PictureMate 200 series.
For 150 glossy prints, stick to T5846, such as: * T5846 ASIN-B000IT4O0A * T5846 ASIN-B000KJBRK8 * T5846 ASIN-B000JMFVY4 * T5846 ASIN-B000MFJOZU * T5846 ASIN-B000L9MES6 * T5846 ASIN-B000NZRJFQ
For 100 matte prints, stick to T5845-M, such as: * T5845-M ASIN-B000IT4O0U * T5845-M ASIN-B000LDRJS2 * T5845-M ASIN-B000JMHV38 * T5845-M ASIN-B000OCMVLU
The low rating isn't so much a reflection on the product as it is on the product's packaging. The manufacturer, Epson, knows that it has more than one type of Picturemate system on the market and that the cartridges are not compatible across all Picturemate models - yet the packaging does not state anywhere with which models the print pack is or isn't compatible. This oversight could be easily fixed by adding information to the packaging.

Best Quality EverAug 02, 2005

I purchased the Epson PictureMate last year and was startled at how expensive the Epson ColorInk and Paper Pack were at my local office supply stores. I checked Staples, Office Max, Best Buy, etc. and they were all running around $29.00 plus per pack. Calculating that the average pack produces 100 pictures put this price at around $.29 per print which isn't really that cheap, plus your time to sit and print. I decided to try Amazon and I found the packs prices to be $21.00 with free shipping. Here's the amazing part!! I NEVER get 100 prints out of the paper pack, honestly, I'm averaging 150-165 photos per paper pack with my Epson Printer. So do the math, $21.00 divided by 150 is...... $.14 per print!!! You can't get that anywhere!!!!! And, I love my printer, the quality of every picture is far better than any photo shop I've ever tried and the thickness of the paper and clarity and quality of the picture is spectacular!!! I'm one happy photo printer!!

Declining ValueJul 25, 2006
By John Grundman Very pleased with quality of prints, but there are two problems preventing the printing of the advertised 100 prints per cartridge. I bought the Picturemate shortly after it began to be sold, and got nearly 100 prints from the original cartridge, though I had to buy extra paper, since it came with only 25 sheets. The latest cartridge, which I just bought and installed, is only 80% full, as reported by the printing program, and obviously will fall short of 100 prints. The second problem is that I have been printing infrequently, and had to discard the previous cartridge after maybe 50 or 60 prints, due to age and limited head-cleaning capacity. Despite the above, it still may be a good deal, provided that the price reflects these limitations. Still, if Epson is willing to reduce the capacity without saying so, they may well degrade the product more in future, in this or other ways.
