Still worthwhileDec 27, 2011
By Lindsey George I have used Endnote, in multiple versions, for about 5 years. While the reviews here do point out that Endnote is not initially intuitive and expecting it to solve all of your manuscript citation problems on Day 1 is unlikely, Endnote is still a great program that is worth your investment in the long run. It is best to work with it on a 'dummy' manuscript to get used to thing, read around online for how to use certain functions, but best is to have an experienced Endnote user teach you the ins and outs of the program, short of having a course available to attend through a University library or something similar. Once you learn Endnote, it is a life changer for those writing lengthy manuscripts with dozens, if not hundreds, of in-text citations which much be accurately referenced in a bibliography. It is full of its tricky parts, but you learn to manage, because even with its shortcomings (and it does have several) it still will save you hours. Just always always back up your enl library because if you accidently delete your references or erase the file, there is no way to recover it!

Not worth the moneyApr 03, 2012
By Thomas P. Seager EndNote is the most popular of the reference management programs, but it's also extremely expensive relative to others, and it fails to deliver on the investment. I've tried Mendeley, Qiqqa, and Zotero, and of these so far Qiqqa is the best. Still, there are so many reference management programs out there that it's impossible to try them all, that's not a definitive recommendation.
What the world really needs is a program that manages BOTH documents AND references, based on pdf libraries in the cloud that make it easier for people to share, comment, discuss and cite these papers together.
EndNote can't do that.
There are lots of other things EndNote can't do, either. For example, I have about 200 pdfs of journal articles 'n stuff on my hard drive, and EndNote seems to be completely ignorant of this fact, and unable to learn from it. By contrast, Qiqqa has a character recognition algorithm that will extract the citation info (or a best guess) from my pdfs.
That's a huge labor saver.

The best for post graduatesFeb 03, 2012

I bought this because I have two years worth of material from my MBA program that I wanted to have easy access to. I am getting a graduate certificate now. I looked at Mendeley, Zotero and Endnote. I feel like Endnote is the best program.
You do not need Endnote IMO if you are an undergrad student and/or if you do not have good amount of material that you will be quoting in your graduate degree. In this case just use Microsoft Word's built in.
There is a steep learning curve in knowing how to use this program. I suggest watching the videos on their website. They take a couple hours to watch. After you watch them it should answer most any question you have.
IMO this is the best program out there. If you are familiar with Microsoft Word's referencing tool this should be an easy transition to managing a larger database of files. If you have never used Microsoft Word's referencing then I propose you probably are not ready for this program.

huge waste of time and moneyDec 12, 2011
By Jordan Monez I thought this would help me with my thesis writing and bought the software, and since then it has caused me nothing but trouble. They need to work out a LOT of userface and usability issues before this product would be worth buying. So frustrated right now trying to get the information I have been storing for months out of this to be able to use it.

By darkmm10 Endnote is an efficient program designed to format bibliographes. My experience with Chicago/Turabian formatting with EndNote has been a great one. I recommend this product to students and professionals who need to make bibliographies on a regular basis. One of my favorite features is that the writer may create categories for bibliographies. For example, if I am writing a miderm paper for my government class, I can title a new work "Government Midterm," and put all of my bibliographies for that paper into the category. This feature makes paper writing easier because the bibliographies are not all scrunched together, and one does not have to discern which works are being used for one particular paper. This feature is also helpful for future use, because the lists remain and one can use them as reference points for future endeavors.
