Great gate!Mar 01, 2006
By M. Perricone This gate is sturdy feeling once it is set up, is easy to put together, and opens in both directions. There is one problem with the gate which is easily fixed. This gate, like many others, has an approximately one inch bar across the bottom of the opening of the gate which you must step over whenever you go through the gate. This is a trip hazard, and the fix is a small plastic ramp that attaches to the bar. If you are using the gate to go in both directions, you have to order two of them, one for each side. I ordered one, expecting it to be two sided, but the company doesn't sell it that way. Also, I have found no easy way of ordering this extremely important "extra" other than calling the company (KidCo) directly.

Great gate, one assembly tipApr 27, 2010

Hard to find gates to cover a large space, and this one is the best I found. I only gave it four because of a little challenging assembly. One assembly tip: when installing the wall attachments on the gate door side, I suggest waiting to drill the upper attachment into the wall (where the gate locks into the wall on the top) until the very end. Here's why: You get a paper template to tape to the wall, and then drill holes through the template and put in two plastic pieces (one on the bottom, one on top) that the gate door locks into when it closes. What I found was that even though I drilled the holes in the proper location, my gate door was not straight vertically and was a little crooked. The upper part of the gate wouldn't sit easily into the plastic attachment, you had to kind of force it in, and it was really hard to open and close the gate. I took the plastic piece off the wall, and let the gate close on the bottom. Then I drilled new holes where the upper part of the gate door wanted to be, and now it closes very easily. So don't use the template to drill the holes for the upper plastic pieces for the gate door attachment, wait to do that until the end to see where the top of the gate sits naturally. Sorry if this sounds complicated, I think you'll understand it when you're looking at the pieces.

there arent many choices for gates when it comes to irregular sized doorways but this gate is awesome. i was a little concerned that there might be a potential for squished fingers around the hinges in the gate's door but that is not the case at all. it is made very well - we love it and it keeps my daughter inside her playroom safely.

Great GateAug 10, 2007
By Polo Vaca I have a two year old and the gate is holding up great so far. Installation took some effort but it was due mostly to my baseboard molding. Only issue: I wish they would have included an adjustable leg support in the middle of the gate. if the gate is open, it loses its sturdiness.

Very flimsy & hard to assemble - not really safeFeb 08, 2006
By S. Ward We bought this to keep our dog in the kitchen and our son out - it was terribly difficult to install, even for my husband, who is very handy - the attachment holes on the extensions do not line up and the directions are not really directions, but just a few confusing diagrams. When it's installed across a wide opening (such as the opening between our family room and kitchen), it's very wobbly and flimsy. Also, the latch on the gate section is awkward and a child (or even a smart dog) could easily figure out how to bypass this gate. Only good thing about it is that it looks nice, but other than that, definitely would not recommend buying it.
