This suits my need for night time road rallies, in which you can easily point to a target and gather the information you need. The red LED lights up the information and the guides perfectly, and does not blind you in the process. Unfortunately, it's a little big for traveling or camping, and one of the guides broke very easily. Super glue fixed it, but I can't help but think that it's a bit frail and could never be packed away or even just stuffed into the glove compartment.

As a bearing compass this product works well. I enjoy navigating the old school way, without GPS. It's more challenging. As far as the compass light, it's not up to speed for the price on this product. I need to be in a lighted area to use it. But I still recommend having a bearing compass in your nav-bag and this unit works.

I was looking forward to having a compass with an illuminated card, but when I went to use it at night the numbers are illegible because light does not penetrate card. I will have to use a flash light in addition when using at night. I should have purchased the non-illuminated one for much cheaper.
