The pleasure comes not just from browsing a collection of discs and reading the liner notes. It also comes from enjoying your music in superior fidelity. By combining high-quality components and decades of Onkyo audio know-how, the C-7030 CD player delivers a superb playback experience. The key lies in keeping the audio signal clean and free from interference, all the way to the output stage. To achieve this, we employ a new high-precision clock to dramatically reduce timing errors, along with our original VLSC to reduce pulse noise. Driving the system is a massive, custom-built transformer that provides a clean and stable power supply. Given how affordable the C-7030 is, build quality is exceptional. A 1/16? (1.6 mm)-thick flat chassis base helps reduce unwanted vibrations, while the sleek aluminum front panel provides an elegant finish. | | | Features: | |

Sounds good.Aug 17, 2011
By cjp943 I found nary a decent review on this model... in fact the ONLY thing I found on the c7030 was the same regurgitated marketing copy re-pasted on differant websites. Annoying. One thing that stood out about this unit's specs besides its budget pricetag was its weight. To me that meant a decent power supply and good build quality (it is fairly heavy for a cd player). So because of this, along with its other intersting features (for the price) I decided to order it.
Connected to my budget HK3490 it has an unbudget sound. Clear highs. Smooth mids. Tight bass. Realistic soundstage. Uncolored. Listening to Nora Jones as I write this and she sounds like shes in the room with me. I initially had my sights on the HD990 to match my receiver but they recently upped the price on that unit and I was left with the distinct impression that there were skipping/build quality issues from some reviews despite the audiophile sound quality specified in most reviews.
Aesthetically, the c7030 looks more expensive that it is. In fact, I could mistaken this cd player for something built by Arcam, and the remote looks like something made by B&O. Good tactile feel for buttons on both the player and remote. What more can I say? Another for-the-price-it-cant-be-beat purchase.

Simple Functional QualityAug 28, 2011
By IndyTP I was looking for a quality single drawer cd player and ran across the C-7030. Simple controls, single play drawer, sounds great and resonably priced. I now hear background music and vocals on cd's I've had for years that I hadn't heard before. This cd player looks great, is simple to use and is great addition to my system. Having used a DVD player for years to play my cd's I can safely say a dedicated cd player is worth investing in.

Audiophile Bargain of the CenturyNov 03, 2011

I'm an amateur audiophile and have listened to many (many) CD players of all stripes. I know what music is supposed to sound like and I've never thought that CDs did a good job of recreating the musical experience. My primary rig is a dedicated Rotel transport with a Musical Fidelity A3-24 DAC (not a cheap combo) with JPSLabs wiring, etc. Even with that setup, I still thought my system sounded better via my modest VPI turntable. Well, that was until I took a listen to this inexpensive Onkyo unit to replace a secondary CD player. Onkyo has nailed it: Spacious, sparking highs without any "tizzy" stuff, incredible low-level detail; real bass; unit is absolutely quiet. Hey, this sounds like music! I hear that Onkyo is coming out with a much higher-end C-7070 dedicated CD player (prob $700), but for $200, this unit is an amazing bargain. I'm listening to the Onkyo directly through the headphone jack and, as said, I'm blown away. BTW, you'll need at least 48 hrs of continuous playing to break in the unit (put a CD on repeat and leave it running). I suppose it's possible the unit will sound different via the rear audio outs...I'll find out soon and will report back (but I'm assuming the same audio signal that's reaching my headphones will also be output via the audio outs).
What are the downsides? Well, the tray looks / sounds cheap when it opens/closes. On the black units, the front-plate lettering is really subtle and you need lots of light to see which button you are pressing. However, the remote is very clearly labeled and doesn't have any legibility issues. No HDCD decoding.
Upsides: Incredible audible experience. Fatigue-free listening. Solid unit (and not too huge either). Nice headphone jack (but you'll need an efficient set of "cans" to enjoy). Display dims. Flexible audio outputs.
Get one before they're sold out or Onkyo realizes they have underpriced this unit and either changes something or reprices.

Onkyo C-7030 CD playerOct 15, 2011
By Baber The C-7030 replaced a 20+ year old Onkyo C-300 player that finally gave up the ghost. It plugged into my existing Onkyo system seamlessly. My old remote even worked (!), as did the Onkyo 'RI remote control' feature that connects the CD, TS-860 tuner/amp, and RW-400 tape deck.
One small complaint - the capability to select/program specific CD tracks (the 'memory' function) can only be done via the new remote, not on the player itself (as the C-300 did), and it only remembers 25 tracks instead of 40.

So far so goodOct 05, 2011

Hard to find a decent, affordable single disc player these days. It was either this or the Marantz. For $150 less I chose the Onkyo. So far no problems and it sounds great. A good buy for under $200.
