An effective alternative to nails and hooksMar 23, 2010
By kerb76 I don't like putting holes in my dry walls as much as I can. These picture hanging hooks with Command strips work great IF and only IF you follow all the instructions. In particular, the mounting surfaces (both wall and and hook) must be clean and dust-free before installation. Also, it is tempting to hang your pictures soon after installing the hooks, but you really should wait at least an hour for the adhesive to 'cure' before the hook can take its stated load.
It's been more than a month since I've used them and so far, none of them have failed me. Great product!

Hard to apply, but they stickMar 17, 2010
By Christine Casper I've used several 3M products. I usually don't have problems. The picture hanging strips with velcro are awesome. These, however, are just the plain 3M sticky strip. This means you have to know EXACTLY where the teeth are on the back of your frame, and be sure that the strips' hangers are EXACTLY level on the first try. There aren't any second chances. I went through 2 extra strips before getting my second hook in the right place. The velcro would've been better, but I don't think they do that on the sawtooth hangers.

Awful, Wall-DestroyersSep 26, 2011
By Kristi Swede I'm generally a big fan of 3M products, but this was my first use of the Command Picture-Hanging system. It will be my last, too.
There are three family photos in my den (picture Pottery Barn 5 x 7 matted and framed photos, hung in a row), and after a recent redecoration, I just didn't want to hammer in another nail. I bought the correct Command Sawtooth Hooks, and applied them following the directions to the letter. After 24 hours, I hung my photos.
The next morning, we heard a terrible crash as one of the photos fell, ripping the adhesive from the wall. Ugh. It left a huge 3" wide hole that is going to take major spackling to repair. The other hangers? When I tried to pull them off according to directions, one snapped right off; when I was finally able to remove the hanger, it left another unsightly hole, right down to the plaster. The third one removed properly.
Target was happy to refund my six dollars, but the cost to my walls is much higher than the cost of these horrible cheap hangers. Look, just get a nail and a hammer. I've never seen a 1" nail leave a 3" hole.

Hanging pictures anywhereOct 20, 2010
By Burton Speiser I've used the 3M Command 17042 hooks with adhesive strips. The first use was on stone in a niche. While I could have used a natural stone drill bit (yes, there are bits for stone glass, glazed tile, cement, lucite <1/2 & >1/2 inch). I wanted a product that would not damage the stone. Measured, attached the adhesive and waited a few minutes. Hung the picture, leveled it and it has worked as advertised. It works well on plaster board, and wood panels. For fulfilling its purpose, ease of use, I rated it a 5.

Save your walls!Nov 14, 2011
By Linda Love them!!!! They work great and can allow me to hang pics without feeling committed to damage my walls with a hole if I don't like where it is. However, you must follow the directions--as in hold the tape down for 30 seconds and then wait an hour. If you don't follow the directions, your pics will fall down. I did it a few times without following the instructions and the tape did fail--but then when I did all the steps, everything stayed and works great!
