Worst DVD Player everApr 10, 2010

I had a silver metal coby DVD player that actually lasted a couple of years before it froze and would no longer recognize the disk. Since it was the right size and only $29 I thought I'd order another one. This one was black plastic and so light and cheaply made I couldn't believe it. As soon as I started using it it immediately froze a few minutes into the movie and I had to start over. After I played a couple of movies it froze completely and will no longer recognize any DVD's. Obviously the laser that reads the disk is the cheapest of the cheap and just wears out immediately. This piece of junk will be going in the trash can along with the other one. I will never order Coby again. It's chinese made cheap garbage.

Is It Really That Bad?Nov 05, 2010

I wonder if any of the people writing all the bad reviews, ever used a Laser Disc cleaner? Most of my players last a long long time because every ten hours of use I use a DVD Lens Cleaner.

So it works. It does freeze once in a while. I can actually hear it play on the TV and through the player itself. Itis really cheap good as a gift but that is about it.

50/50 chance of being a good oneJan 04, 2011
By Fastlane I bought 2 of these as Christmas gifts for my kids. One worked fine for about 30 minutes then quit. Keeps saying No disc. We have tried several different ones and no luck. Guess I will be returning it.

noty to goodOct 26, 2009

I bought the coby 233 at a grocery store. I had read all the bad reviews on this black one and the silver one. My logic was that the 233 line came out in 2007. I hoped by now they may have corrected the problems. I was wrong I guess. My unit was fine at first, quiet and a above average progressive scan picture. Then I began to notice slight freezes in the playback. Then it froze all at once. The only way to make it play again was to unplug it for a few minutes then start over. Now it locks up on every disc I play about twenty minutes into the film. I just sat in my chair as everyone left the room to snicker at me for buying it. I packed up the unit to return today. Coby is a big company, thier thing is electronics at good prices, but why bother to make a poor item like this. I was so down I didnt get another one to try, so maybe the next one would have been great but I couldnt take the risk...I just couldnt do it.
