Danger on CA PC Tune-up 2May 28, 2010
By C. Richard Shamel Jr. DANGER! CAUTION! DANGER! CA PC Tune-Up did not work for me and I believe it ti be a scam to obtain information from your computer. I installed the program, registered it with my e- mail etc., logged on ( I thought) and let it scam my computer. Then a "report" screen came on that gave a hint at what problems it found. When I tried to have the program fix the problems it said that I had to log in again. I did so TEN TIMES and it kept saying the same thing. I removed the program from my computer and then re-installed it and went through the same procedure with the same result. I called the given "customer service" number and after over a 15 minute wait, an "associate" whose speech I could barely understand answered from India, Pakistan or somewhere (big surprise). More information was requested and I was asked if they could take control of my computer to obtain the information they needed to fix my problem! I asked if they could just tell me how to log in and was told no, they had to take control of my computer. I refused to do so and will now return the program to CompUsa where I was pretty much conned into buying the program when I went there to buy a memory upgrade.

"nomad"
1. Decent spy-ware check 2. Defrags hard disk (but you got one already) 3. Checks device drivers (did not seem to update many, if any) 4. Some windows parameter tuning (little needed here)

Waste of Money AND TIME!!!Aug 01, 2011
By Danny I was sold this product by Tigerdirect, I was buying RAM for my machine and the salesman insisted, and guaranteed a 200% increase in speed if I buy this CA PC Tune-Up 3.0. I was thinking, why would Microsoft have their Operating System perform at only 50% capacity? The sales associate said hey you can use it then just return it at a full refund. What's the damage right?
It did a scan and of course suggested I buy more products and services, and then did a defrag and registry clean up, both of which Windows 7, Vista, and XP all already do natively. Total speed increase: 0%. I got more speed when I bought more RAM. As long as you maintain your machine with defragmenter and disk clean up every few weeks or so, depending on use, you should have no reason to even think about purchasing this product. It's funny how they advertise that most Fortune 500 companies use this product, but they nver mention who, not even a single company.
The reason this get's One Star, and not 2 is because of the refund process. It's not a refund, I called the number they had me call, got re-routed twice to India, and by the time I got to the person that would help me with my return it had been 45 minutes. Everyone kept asking me the registration name, and activation code, serial number, email, etc. Finally when I got to the guy to help me he sends me to a website, turns out I didn't need to call anyone, but that's not indicated on any documentation on their product, receipt, or website. The website then, of course, asks you all the same information again, plus mailing address. It then has you print out a form, then fill it out with the same information again, mail it along with a receipt, and then you will receive a gift card in 8-10 weeks.
Not only did I waste $40 on this crap software, but I also wasted 80 minutes, paper, envelopes, ink, a stamp, and a trip to the post office, to get my $40 bucks back. Obviously had I known it was going to take this much to get $40 back I probably wouldn't have wasted my time and just swallowed it. This product is of use to no one that knows how to use Windows, and they make it extremely inconvenient to return, this to me is very shady, and now I feel swindled.

*WARNING*Feb 07, 2011
By Teri's mom I also purchased this product from COMPUSA at their suggestion when I went to purchase a memory upgrade for my computer. I followed the instructions in the package and the installation went fine. I performed the initial scan and was watching the log when it indicated it was trying to update an audio driver and the update failed. I noticed immediately that I had no sound, only a beep. I called the support number and was connected with someone in India who politely told me that I would receive no free help from them because I had installed the program myself. In order to receive support you must have them install it. I told him I had never heard of such a thing and no where in the documentation did it say that. He established a remote session on my pc and proceeded to tell me I had all kinds of things wrong with it and that is why the driver update failed. He also told me I had all kinds of antivirus program issues and that my program probably wasn't working properly. He could transfer me right then to iYogi and for $169.99 they would fix the problems including the sound issue. I said I wasn't going to pay anything to fix the sound issue because PC Tuneup caused the problem. He said there was nothing he could do for me but insisted on calling me back the next day. I told him I wanted to speak to someone else and he connected me with customer support who I had a lot of trouble understanding. She told me the same thing and I told her I wanted the issue escalated to a supervisor and that I was not going to pay for anything. After having to be extremely insistent, she said she would transfer me to advanced tech support and promptly disconnected me. I called back and finally found a very nice lady from India who again dialed in. She was able to locate the device and roll back the driver to the previous one that worked. She stayed on the phone with me until everything was back in working order. I was very upset at their attempt to extort $170 from me.

WORST PROGRAM EVER!!Feb 10, 2012
By Richard Bloom THIS PROGRAM SUCKS!! I tried this program Tiger Direct gave it High Praises, but I should have read the reviews on it...It is not user friendy, can mess up your PC, I never got my rebate so when I called them, got someone with broken english, left me on hold for 10 minutes, then I was told to get rebate I had to sign up for something that would cost me money...What a RIP-OFF! Uninstalled this program called for refund, after being on hold for 22 minutes, was told to call this other number which was in Canada, after being on a hold list for 10 minutes they took down some information and said I had to write a letter to the company in California. I did all this and never got refund, Everytime I called them, got excuses so I finally called my credit card and they took it from there, I do not have to pay for it. Either Tiger Direct or that stupid software company will have to make Good...Anyone else get ripped off from them, contact Better Business Bureau about it as well
