 Does what it advertises, though with one caveat...Aug 28, 2011

I am a high school teacher who frequently deals with issues of students taking homework papers out of traditional "inbox" baskets and either throwing them away or ripping names off and submitting as their own work. Looking for an option for me to have a more secure method for students to submit their work, I purchased this mailbox.
The description states that the slot is wide enough to accommodate letters. This is indeed correct, but I should advise that a standard 8.5"x11" sheet of loose-leaf paper will not fit in landscape orientation into the slot. (The existing slot is about 1" too narrow for the sheet to be placed into the box in that fashion.) If a student attempts to place a sheet of paper into the box in portrait orientation, the box is naturally too short to accommodate the paper entirely in that fashion either. The paper would successfully go into the box if inserted in portrait fashion until such point where the paper could be rotated the rest of the way to lay correctly in the box; however, after one week of using the box at school it is obvious that most students do not operate in such a thoughtful manner, and the end result is many papers are jammed into the box in portrait fashion, which forces them to curl over and block access to the slot at all.
The solution I have come up with is to use a dremel with a cutting disk to widen the slot the appropriate distance in each direction so that papers can now be inserted as desired. It took approximately 30 minutes to widen the slot and carefully grind/smooth metal burrs off the box for safety. In this arrangement the box will work fantastically for my needs. All in all, the box is well designed. I would also add that although four holes are predrilled into the back of the box for wall mounting, there is no mounting hardware (screws, anchors, etc) provided with the box. (Not that any was advertised as such, mind you.)

I needed this box for an outdoor timcard drop box. It is perfect in size and a quality product. I was concerned that the keys would be cheap and break easily but instead they came as a quality product
