Not what I had hoped for.Aug 14, 2008

Fittings leaked very badly. It's almost impossible to install if your washer connections are in one of these recessed plastic housings without buying extensions. I advised a friend to buy this unit to use for a pet bath, because it was intended specifically for that, and I felt like it would be a better made unit than the homemade version I "rigged" up on my own version of this from regular garden hose diverters and cut-off from Wal-mart and a mixing hose I found at Home Depot for under $7.00. Boy was I wrong. At first glance of this unit I felt that I had guided my friend in the right direction, because the connectors looked to me made from cast stainless with better swivel connectors that allow you more flexibility in tight spaces. In hind sight, it was those swivel connectors that I could never tighten enough to stop leaking, and I tried plenty of Teflon tape in the process. After four attempts to dismantle and reinstall the unit and two hours to trouble shoot , I finally decided to try the cheap route and use the two extra "Y" diverters and cut-off I'd brought with me. Sure we had to run to Home-depot and get that special mixing hose, but it was worth it, because it all worked the first time I turned it on, without a single hint of a leak. And it all cost less than $20 using the mid-grade metal fittings. Add about $10 to that if you want to use the better grade Brass fittings.

Beware of valve closuresJun 01, 2008

"Not a Plumber"
This is a very useful product, allowing for temperature control for a hose connection. I lost the instructions and do not recall if it was mentioned that BOTH valves (shut-off and warm water valves) must shut off after use. After finding the optimal position for the warm water valve I left it there and only closed the shut off valve for the outside hose. Later I noticed that the whole house had only warm water delivery. It cost me a $150 plumbing service call to discover that I created what is called a cold water to hot water cross-over by leaving that valve open. I wonder......if I am the only one to experience this?

We recently added the tropic shower to our booster bath. I had read reviews stating that it leaked, fell apart, was difficult to install etc. We had zero trouble with the install, and it works beautifully! No leaks, keeps the water temperature perfect, and instantly fits to the hose for a warm bath. I can just pull out my booster bath, screw in the hose connector, and wash the dogs (and cats) with comfortable, warm water! They enjoy it (really!) and I find it so much easier than washing them in the shower. Plus the waste-water irrigates the yard, so we feel even better about bathing our pets outside! I've only had it a couple of months and already used it a dozen times (for my pets and other family members' pets) and everybody loves it!
