If only the nib wear wasn't so frequent....Feb 05, 2010
By S. Jenkins
"Arshes Nei"
I think I need to preface this review with how it was shipped. Since I purchased this from Amazon, UPS frequently looses my packages and wish they would have allowed me to deliver it to my PO BOX (which is at a USPS post office) via USPS since I haven't lost a package from them yet. I also noticed that anything shipped via USPS uses Amazon packaging that protects my products well. UPS doesn't seem to have the same standard of care.
Now onto the review of the nibs themselves. If anyone owns an Intuos 4 you already know that the nib wear is more frequent on this line of tablets than its predecessors. This means you'll be purchasing more than the older lines. I don't mind buying a set a year but this can add up in cost, which is why I can't give it the full 5 stars because these won't last as long as the older model nib kits.
The nib kit despite frequent wear is a good bargain since unlike the older intuos 3 kit, this offers another set of nibs. The kit includes:
5 Black Standard Nibs. 5 Black with a white tip Flex Nibs 5 Grey Felt Nibs 5 Grey Spring Nibs (they have a spring inside) 1 Fat rubber grip with no switch - this is so you can hold it more like a brush 1 regular barrel grip with no side switch 1 Nib extractor 1 Side switch (in case you lose one)
It's pretty easy to remove the nibs with the nib extractor. I like the flex nibs a lot. You can buy the individual pack of nibs but since it comes with extra grips, side switch and extractor for nearly the same price as buying the five packs you're better off getting the kit.
The only thing I wish is that they'd make an accessory kit for the INTUOS4 Art Pen

Not fully as advertisedSep 15, 2011
By Sketchy Bibler The picture on this product is a little misleading- you actually only get ONE black nib, five felt, five spring, and five white-inside ones. The picture shows you getting five black plastic nibs, but the small print on the page says you get one, and the product arrives as stated.
So just a heads-up- if you're looking specifically for the hard plastic nibs, this only comes with one. (I personally prefer the other three over them, so this is still a good buy, but just thought people might like to know.)

Nice assortment - needs a reusable sorted containerApr 16, 2010

Nice assortment of tips, etc. for the Intuos pens. I have the medium Intuos 4 tablet and love it. This adds more options to the standard pen set and gives you the replacements you will need if you use a tablet a lot.
It should come with a storage container for keeping all the tips separated and easy to access. Having them delivered in little plastic bags is not convenient. That's my only complaint.
Arrived quickly in perfect condition. Just needs better packaging.

A+ Refill KitJul 01, 2010
By netwalker I completely wore my original Intuous 4 pen nib to a stub. Bought this kit and my pen is back to new. It takes about 5 seconds to change the nibs, VERY easy to do. Feel confident in this purchase and will buy again when this set runs out.
I can't comment on the grips and other pen tips. I only use the black nibs for drawing.

3's a crowd, apparently :(Dec 12, 2011
By Elizabeth I'm not entirely sure what's up with this product. People have been going back and forth about the missing 3 black nibs for a while now. I contacted Amazon before I bought it and the customer service rep told me if there was a problem with it they'd fix it and send me the right one, so I went ahead and spent the money. It came in the mail promptly in a lovely wacom package without the 3 nibs. In fact what they sent me was the product featured on Wacom's website which is more expensive. It clearly stated that it only came with one nib on the back of the package, which is not consistent with the picture or the listing here. So I contacted the Amazon customer service representatives again, and they told me they were very sorry it wasn't right. They rushed me another one, and paid to have the other pack returned - all of this was really easy and at absolutely no cost to me. When the new one arrived it was the exact same thing - and I was informed that THIS product was no longer available and they were looking into the problem. They gave me several options and I opted to keep the kit.
Here's the deal - The Customer Service at Amazon is awsome. I never have a problem with these guys and they're always there to help you, so if you have a problem or a question don't be afraid to speak up. If you're not comfortable calling them directly, there's a chat feature so you can talk to them as if you were texting your friends. They're all extremely nice and friendly. This is why if I have to buy something online I always go to Amazon first.
Second, though the product is the exact same thing as what you'll find at the wacom website ((5 of each special nib, and 1 of the basic black with a few extra bits to try out on your pen)) it is less expensive, and honestly the whole experience encouraged me to play around with my nibs. I had no idea what I was missing out on! Each of them have their own unique texture on the tablet and can really affect how the pen and tablet respond to each other. I suggest looking up how each of them functions online so you can better impliment them into your artistic process.
Another thing - check your nibs often. Do not underestimate the wear on these things. I had only been using a single nib for about 3 weeks before I'd worn the thing flat and a line was a visible ding on the cover of active surface area. ((It's not bad. It's not deep enough to affect my strokes. Just a light mark that can be seen if you move the light just so.)) So keep that in mind when you have to get supplies.
Honestly? The overall cost of a bundle of nibs isn't /that/ bad. Maybe the price of a cup of coffee at starbucks every other month or so for a set of 5 straight black (If you only use the straight black nibs, buy them from wacom - they're only $4.99 in comparison to the $9ish here) but if you use multiple types grab this bundle and save a few dollars since each of those are more expensive on their own than the black nibs are.
If you're having a problem with drag on your hand when you draw across the tablet surface, I suggest investing in a smudgeguard glove or making your own. It's inexpensive and dang near eliminates the problem.
Traditional artists spend hundreds of dollars on supplies for their crafts every month in comparison to the small price tag on our nibs. I bought into the fear when I first considered getting the intuos4, but ever since I have not once regretted my choice. It's a wonderful companion and I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I hope my experience helps you make an informed decision. Good luck, and happy hunting!
