Good cover for structured wiring enclosure, not great.Sep 15, 2010
By WPB Consulting This cover is designed for Channel Vision's 50-inch structured wiring enclosure. It is a higher-end alternative to the basic solid-metal screw down cover. It provides a simple mounting mechanism using a piano type hinge. It also has a keylock and a smoked plexi-glass concave panel with a limited wiring groove on either side.
Pros:
* Solid metal construction (except for plexi-glass of course) * Keylock * Ventilation holes at top and bottom, including pre-molded recess for ventilation fans. * See-Through smoked plexi-glass. Not too dark, still easy to see status LEDs and whatnot. * Concave panel gives you a lot of extra space for stuff that might not fit behind a standard door panel.
Cons:
* Hinge isn't very good. It is VERY stiff, and takes too much effort to open and close. * Door mounts with only three screws, while normally not an issue, the tight hinge puts a lot of stress on these when opening/closing. * Frame seems to be cast aluminum. Looks nice, but not durable. Corners can easily be cracked or broken off while handling. Mine actually arrived with a small bit off one corner cracked. * Locking mechanism is ok, but it relies on a very small tab on the enclosure itself to latch.
All in all, this is a nice (though pricey) alternative to a simple metal door you can't see through. It is very nice to glance at the enclosure without opening it, to see the status LEDs of all the devices inside. I picked mine up "used" from one of the Amazon marketplace sellers. It arrived in new condition (other than a cracked corner that probably happened during shipping)
