It's Everything I Wanted.Mar 07, 2011
By DEO3 It was a Friday when my VG236HE was to be delivered. I stayed home all day waiting for it, checking the tracking info practically every five minutes. Noon came and went. 1:00, 2:00... 4:00, came and went. Around 6:30 I started getting frustrated. I had never seen a delivery truck out that late before, so I started thinking back to when I could have missed the knock on the door. By 8:00 I had accepted defeat, it was Friday, I missed my delivery, and now I'd have to wait 'til Monday. But then - at 9:45 at night! The door bell rings, and sure enough there's a Fedex truck pulling out of my driveway and an enormous box blocking my door.
So now that I've had a weekend to play around with it I have to say, it's everything I hoped it to be. Extremely bright (I've had to turn brightness all the way down to 44), extremely clear (due to running 1920x1080 on a rather small screen), the glare from the glossy screen isn't an issue (due to how adjustable the monitor is), and if you can get your games to run at 100+ frame rates it'll bring tears of joy to your eyes. Slick as ice, smooth as butter, the clarity of motion is incredible. I loaded up a new game of Oblivion and spent ten minutes just running around in circles in the jail cell with a dumb smile on my face. Playing at 120hz really is just like playing on a CRT, and is something I've been craving ever since having to make the switch to flat screens years and years ago.
There is a downside though. If you can't run your games at 100+ fps, a 120hz monitor really doesn't seem all that different from any ol' flat screen. And when it comes to running modern games at those kind of frame rates, I've found my trusty ol' HD4870 is no longer up to the task, so now I've had to buy a new video card as well. But I don't even care, because there's no going back. Now that I have a taste of 120hz, I'll do whatever it takes.

GREAT 120hz monitor but buyer bewareApr 02, 2011
By Jason L I purchased this monitor after reading all the great things about it. When I first got it, I was very happy with the purchase and being a gamer, I was very happy with the performance. Prior to this monitor, my desk had one 23" 60hz LCD and a 19" CRT for some older games that didn't perform as well on an LCD such as counter-strike 1.6. Straight out of the box, running this LCD at 120hz for such games, it performs beautifully and has been the closest to a CRT that I've come across. It's not the perfect replacement, but the difference is so negligible that I will be getting rid of my CRT and finally freeing up some space on my desk. Color wise, everything looks great. Viewing movies at 1080 also seem smoother than my older LCD. I have yet to calibrate this monitor, but out of the box, I'm happy with it. I still have not tried the 3D features of this monitor as I'm looking more for a 120hz monitor that can handle 2D stuff as well as a CRT. I'm not a big fan of the whole 3D thing. As for the negative aspect of my review which brings it only down to 4 stars is the quality of this monitor. My first monitor I received had a button that was kinda hard to press as I was trying to adjust some settings. And while I was browsing the web, noticed there was a dead/stuck pixel in the middle of the screen slightly to the left. It isn't visible unless I'm on a bright colored screen but using my e-mail a lot for work, I see it often. Just knowing it's there is very bothersome to me as I'm very particular with the electronics I buy. Amazon was great with replacing the monitor and sent me one immediately in the mail. The second one I received worked fine except this time, there were at least 4-5 dead/stuck pixels making a vertical line on the bottom left of the screen. For both monitors I tried those fixes for stuck pixels and none of them worked. Again, Amazon was great at sending me another replacement. I guess the third time is a charm as this one doesn't have any dead/stuck pixels and no problems with it.. yet.. hopefully it stays that way. This monitor is GREAT hence why even after the problems, I still give it 4 stars. I think 2 of the other reviewers also have had problems with dead/stuck pixels. Another reviewer on a different website has gone through 4 of these monitors each with the same dead/stuck pixel problem. That's absolutely unacceptable in my opinion as I was afraid I might've stumbled across the same fate. Luckily, after 2 exchanges, I have one that's working well.
This is a great monitor as long as you receive one that doesn't have any manufacturer issues which commonly seems to be dead/stuck pixels. I've purchased 2-3 LCDs in the past and I never had such a problem until this monitor. I stuck through the exchanges with this monitor because of the reviews and how well it does perform despite the pixel problems.

Flawless Monitor--Fluid Performance!Oct 23, 2011
By J. Springs Let me preface by saying I do not and will not EVER use this monitor for 3D. I am not into that--it gives me headaches and causes sensory overload.
I bought this monitor to receive a more "fluid" experience navigating Windows and playing FPS's (mainly bought it for BF3 release). Let me tell you...you WILL notice a difference between 60Hz and 120Hz. The people who claim, "The human eye can't keep up with a higher refresh rate than 60Hz" are pulling your leg. Since I'm running GTX 570 SLI, I was running into my monitor capping framerates at 60 FPS. Now, when I play games like Team Fortress 2, I get 120 FPS due to this monitor running at 120Hz and man...I'm invincible!
Your reflexes and handling of the computer--whether it be on the desktop or in games--will be much more fluid and you will NEVER go back to 60Hz again.
I switched from a brand new 34" Viewsonic 60Hz LED, and I thought I'd miss the colors and vivid images; however, this monitor outperforms it in every way. The colors are brighter, images more crisp. I don't even think of going from LED to LCD as a drawback now that I've spent some time with this baby.
Note: I know quality control seems to be an issue with this product, but my monitor came with no stuck pixels, random lines, or flashes/glitches. If yours does, simply use Amazon's excellent customer service and get a replacement--don't "deal with it" like some of the other reviewers have when you don't have to suffer!

Asus VG236HE 120hz 3d monitorDec 12, 2010
By Ben I bought this monitor to replace my aging 20" Viewsonic VX2025WM. I had many great years with my old Viewsonic but I decided it was time to upgrade and sold it to a friend of mine. This monitor was actually my 2nd choice. I had actually been looking at this monitor and the LG W2363D-PF. The specs are almost identical but the LG has a anti-glare screen and the Asus is glossy. When the LG was sold out, I ordered the Asus monitor instead. At first I was hesitant because of the glossy screen I had read about in other reviews. In a bright room, it reflects a great deal more than my old Viewsonic did. In reality, it's not that big of a deal. When I have all my lights turned off and the room is dark, I can't notice any reflections at all. The screen is bright enough that even when I do have some lights on, it's still not that noticeable.
My one and only gripe over this monitor is it came with one pixel that is either dead or stuck on black. To make matters worse, it's pretty much in the center of the screen just a little to the left. I've been using flat panel LCD's for a few years now and I've never once gotten a product with a stuck or dead pixel. This is my first taste of that horror. Now back to reality: even though it's kind of annoying to have a stuck / dead pixel, I've noticed it's not that big of a deal either. Yes it is a dead / stuck pixel but I find that for 99% of what I use this monitor for, I can't notice it unless I actually start looking for it within the picture while either surfing the web, watching movies, or playing video games. With only one stuck / dead pixel, it doesn't qualify for warranty replacement.
Other than that, this is by far the best monitor I've ever owned. It's a HUGE upgrade from my old 20" Viewsonic. The screen is huge and in your face. If I had the money, I would buy 2 more and have a multi-monitor setup! My eyes lit up and couldn't stop smiling when I first popped in Avatar bluray. I don't use the 3d portion yet because I have an ATI graphics card at the moment but the 120hz looks amazing. It blows my old Toshiba 32" which is set up on the wall above it right out of the water. This monitor is my pride and joy and I love it. I'd recommend this to any and all my friends looking to buy new or upgrade. I don't regret this purchase at all. With Amazon.com Prime [...] overnight shipping, I can't be happier! Hope this helps you guys with your decision. Cheers!

Quality control leaves alot to be desired.Sep 12, 2011
By Scott The Asus VG236HE is a pretty decent monitor out of the current 120hz monitors out at the moment. I'm currently going on my third one in the last two months. Waiting on Asus to respond to my RMA request. First one I recived had a bunch of dead pixels and horrid backlight bleeding. The second one had pretty bad color uniformity. The top and bottom were alot brighter than the center of the screen, but it wasn't bad enough to return. Amazon did an amazing job replacing the first one and even cross-shipped next day air my replacement at no charge. They even sent UPS to my house to pick it up.
Now after almost two months of use with the monitor, it started making popping and clicking sounds every once in awhile. Then I turned on my computer to be welcomed to a vertical red line and a horizontal white line going across the screen. I'm not sure if it's bad luck or horrible quality control. Both monitors were labled as being made in August of 2010. Maybe a bad batch?
The sad thing is it's really hard to adjust back to a non 120hz monitor. I notice input lag and ghosting I never did before on my good ol' Dell 2407WFP.
Other than those issues, it is a nice monitor when working. I couldn't get the colors just right, but they were alot more vibrant than my Dell. The viewing angles are rather bad, but that's TN panel tech I believe. The monitor is extremely glossy and may be annoying in rooms with alot of light or next to a window. Gaming was a dream on it. I didn't buy the 3D glasses so I don't know how well that is.
In hindsight I wish I waited to buy this, but to be honest I am pretty jaded because of the issues so it is affecting my opinion.
