1Be warned...Oct 17, 2009
By K. W. Forsythe
I just puchased the latest version of this product; 123 Copy DVD Gold v7.0.0.25. It has failed to work at all. After visiting the website forum for the company, I discovered that there is a known problem that the software will not work with some external drives.

So, if you are a laptop, notebook, or netbook user (as many people are these days) it's likely that this software will not work on your machine.

I am currently waiting for the company to release another update that they say is supposed to fix this problem. If and/or when this update becomes available I will update my review of this product.

In the meantime, be warned...

Update...

Since I posted my review of 123 Copy DVD Gold (2010 version) a couple of days ago, I have been told by the company that the updates that they are releasing are in attempts to fix the problems with the 2009 version of the software. So, apparently there are no immediate plans to update the 2010 version to fix the problems with it since apparently not enough users have yet upgraded to the 2010 version. I recommend avoiding this software. Unfortunately, there don't appear to be many alternatives to this software for DVD copying, nevertheless, this software has not worked for me at all.

Further, I was curious about the positive 5 star review that was also posted for this product, given the problems I've had with it, and the problems that others have posted on the forum at the company's website.

In checking all the reviews that this individual has posted it is interesting to note that they are all for this company's products and they are all five star reviews. Perhaps this individual is an employee of the company? If so, I would consider this a deceptive practice and would ask Amazon to look into it.

1It does NOT copy movies that have copy write protection.Jan 30, 2010
By Democritus
I already have Roxio's Creator 2010. It has more capabilities than Copy DVD Gold. But it does not copy movies that have copy write protection on them. Furthermore, Roxio tells you this and also provides a user manual in the box. It's not easy to set up. But if you have some education and background in setting up computers and installing software, you will probably be able to do it.

I bought Copy DVD Gold because it says on the box that it can copy all movies meaning to include copy write protected movies. So, I thought it would be nice to be able to copy some of my favorite movies to my ipod if this software would do the job for me. Well it doesn't work. Copy DVD Gold would not copy any of my favorite movies that are copy write protected. I do read and follow instructions. But there were no instruction sheets nor manuals in the box. The setup program launches the browser and brings up the instructions which are minimal. The box does not say that Nero's engine burner is required. If a third party software module is required, the manufacturer should say so on the box, preferably under System Requirement listings. Nero doesn't unlock copy write protection. So, that software doesn't offer me anything I don't already have. Unfortunately, neither does Copy DVD Gold. It wouldn't unlock any of my copy write protected movies. It did copy a movie trailer and a couple of preview advertisements off of two DVDs. But it would not copy the movie.

So, the movie producers marketing their movies on DVDs and the software developers who wrote the copy protection for those movies will probably be happy to know that their copy write protection defeated this Copy DVD Gold software package.

The back of the Copy DVD Gold box says 100% Guaranteed Satisfaction or my purchase price would be refunded. So, I took this software back to the store where I bought it and demanded my money back - even though the store's policy is no refunds for software once the box has been opened. They did refund my money.

PS - I read the other reviews for that reviewer who gave this product a 5 - star rating. All of his reviews are for this products from the same company and every product is given a high rating just as another reviewer has said. Therefore the objectivity and credibility of that review should be regarded as questionable.

1123DVD Copy Software Does NOT WORKMar 09, 2010
By Julie Castle-smith "Savy Shopper"
Have used DVD Copy & then DVD Gold for a few years with pretty regular success - no complaints really. They offered me a discount on their Media Max software so I upgraded. This software does not work at all! It would read a movie & then when I put in a blank to burn to, all I would get would be an error message. As they have no manual either on their website or to download, I hunted thru their blog to see that others were having the same issues. The programmers help was always the same: upgrade to their most recent release. All that changed was the text in the error message! Still would not burn any files to a disc. After about 10 uninstalls & reinstalls, updates, etc. I finally gave up trying to sort it out - wrote as much on their blog & created a poll with the 4 different error messages that I had received to see how many others were having the exact same problems. Their response was to ban my IP address from the blog site. I am now giving DVD Fab a try, they have a freeware version for 30 days. So far I have not had any problems! Buyer beware of any 123 DVD Copy software!! If you read their blogs & see how many folks wanted a refund & the have a very specific refund policy if you download from their site. Make sure you can use their software without issues before you give them any money!!

4great program if you read the help directionsDec 13, 2009
By P. Mullins "OFFICIAL NASCAR MEMBERS CLUB"
I've used this program 123 DVD Copy 2009 to copy all my DVD's that i've rented, bought or already had in my collection.

the key is in the help files (no one reads i guess) but 123 DVD copy has a burn engine......that engine is nero version 7 or higher. If you don't have nero, then you are not going to burn too many DVD's that are copy protected.

In the tray is an icon, when it turns from red or yellow to green that means 123 has scanned the dvd and the copy protection has been diasabled. Now you can make a legal backup for yourself......now remember that's for yourself....not to sell or pirate copies.

The program if used as intended wil work 95% of the time to make your backup copy.

here is the section from the help files:..........................

DVD Burner Settings

Burn Engine
123 has 2 burn engine options. The internal burn engine built into 123CopyDVD and External Nero. The external Nero option requires the full version of Nero 7 or greater to be installed.
Burner
123 will list all of the DVD burners on the current machine. Please select the DVD burner you wish to use when copying or creating dvd's

Auto Burn

When auto burn is enabled, 123 will automatically burn to the media in the selected burner. This is ideal if you are copying from 1 drive to another and do not wish to be prompted to insert the burnable media.

Note: You will have to make sure the burnable media is inserted into the burner selected above when the copy process starts otherwise it will prompt you.

Background Mode

When background mode is enabled 123 will use much less CPU than normally required. This is good if you wish to continue to use your PC while the dvd is being copied. The copy process will take longer when in background mode.

Well there are five more pages in the help section that really is "help" for this program.

1No Support, Lousy ProgramSep 29, 2010
By SanEll
Be warned, if you buy this program, you will probably regret it. If you want to handle blu-ray, you have to buy their "upgraded" version, but there is no instruction on how to do so unless you go ahead and pay full price for it. Their live chat is a joke. Whenever I've tried to use it, I get a message that no operator is available. Even when you use it with a regular DVD, don't expect it to work. It appears to be very limited in what it can handle.
